INTRODUCTION
The case study explores the challenges and opportunities associated with the use of unmanned
drone technology in various industries. It discusses the convergence of military unmanned
aircraft and remote-controlled toy drones, and the potential benefits and drawbacks of this
technology. The opportunities associated with the military unmanned aircraft are those for
surveillance of crime related which help them track the criminals easily. While remote-controlled
drones are those for delivering packages to remote areas and for recreational purposes like
videography.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The use of drones has been predominantly associated with military applications, but other
industries are also exploring their potential. For example, a Domino's franchise in the UK
showcased a video of an unmanned drone delivering pizzas, raising questions about the
feasibility and implications of such a delivery method. Additionally, Chinese delivery company
SF Express is testing drones for package delivery in remote areas. It also shows that drones have
their own difficulties in developing and using them. The US have their own restrictions of drones
to be used commercially due to early stage of technological development which gives parcel
delivery companies a disadvantage, and some countries laws differ from other country for legal
use. However, it has its own benefits for military and commercial uses.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
Coming up with the problems regarding the case; the launch of drone technology in commercial
applications faces several challenges. Safety concerns arise due to the increased risk of crashes
or collisions with more crafts in the air which led some countries to restrict the use of drones.
Privacy issues also emerged, as continuous monitoring of people's activities outdoors raises
ethical questions since the military aircraft are for surveillance. Furthermore, the technology is
still in its early stages, with limitations in flight time due to power consuming making the drone
to recharge it repeatedly; obstacle avoidance where it cannot detect all unlocated power lines and
birds passing by resulting it to mid-air collision and near misses, and cost-effectively for its
safety.
PROBLEM SOLUTION
To address the challenges, regulatory bodies are working on rules that would allow greater
civilian use of drones. Improvements in drone technology, such as longer flight times and better
obstacle avoidance system. Additionally, solar-powered drones could offer extended flight times
and reduce the need for fuel transportation or recharging equipment. The maquiladora zone has
more than 50 firms and are more innovative to produce a supply chain and attract more investors
from world’s leading manufacturers. Mexico undercuts countries like China as well as India and
Vietnam due to their low-cost labours but attractive taxes and utility cost, the maquiladoras
provides support in local supply chain in states such as Nevada and New Mexico.
RECOMMENDATION
In this study, the convergence of military unmanned aircraft and remote-controlled toy drones
presents both opportunities and challenges. While the technology holds potential for various
industries, including delivery services and surveillance, there are concerns regarding safety and
privacy. By addressing these challenges and fostering collaboration, the successful integration of
drone technology can be achieved, leading to innovative solutions and improved efficiency in
various sectors.
