Abaknon, spoken in Capul Island in Northern Samar.



 Baybayanon, spoken in Baybay in Leyte.
 Boholano, spoken in Southern Leyte.
 Cebuano, spoken in Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, Northern Samar, and
Eastern Samar.
 Kinabalian, spoken in the municipality of San Juan, Southern Leyte.
 Waray-Waray, spoken in Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, Northern Samar, and
Eastern Samar. It is the regional lingua franca.
ECONOMY
Eastern Visayas is primarily an agricultural region
with rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane and banana as its major crops.
Primary sources of revenue are manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade and services. Mining,
farming, fishing and tourism contribute significantly to the economy. Manufacturing firms
include mining companies, fertilizer plants, sugar central, rice and corn mills and other food
processing plants. Tacloban is the hub of investment, trade and development in the region.
Other industries include coconut oil extraction, alcohol distilling, beverage manufacture and
forest products. Home industries include hat and basket weaving, metal craft, needlecraft,
pottery, ceramics, woodcraft, shell craft and bamboo craft.

LAND USE

Eastern Visayas is primarily an agricultural region with rice, abaca, corn, coconut, sugarcane and
banana as major crops. Its total land area is 21,562.85 sq. kms. 52% of its total land area is
classified as forestland and 48% as alienable and disposable land.

TOURIST SPOT
1. Kalanggaman Island, Palompon, Leyte: Famous for its long, crystal-clear
sandbar, this island offers a tranquil getaway with its white sandy beaches
and turquoise waters. It's perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling, and beach.

2. Mainit Hot Spring is located in Caibiran, Biliran. Even though visitors called this a
neglected gem in Biliran, Mainit Hot Spring is still a popular destination in the
province. Local visitors and foreign tourists visit the place to soothe their muscles and dip
into the man-made basin/pool of warm waters. A small basin of hot spring water near the
river is said to be hot enough to cook a hard-boiled egg. Below the man-made pool of hot
spring waters is the river with free-flowing cold waters. Believers of the healing prowess
of hot springs often visit the place.
3. Pink Beach is situated in Sila Island, San Vicente, Northern Samar. Pink Beach is
one of the most beautiful and remarkable beaches in the country tucked in the eastern
side of Sila Island in the province of Northern Samar. The pink sand beach is actually
composed of tiny fragments of red corals and shells mixed with the creamy white sand.
Locals has it that it is at its full glory during summer and the sun is up creating a beautiful
sight of a pink sand beach. The alluring emerald seawater on the beach is teeming with
corals and fishes good for swimming and snorkeling. Most visitors come here on day tour
but overnight camping is also allowed.
4. Langun-Gobingob Caves, also known as Calbiga Caves, are the most popular
spelunking destination in Samar. It is the biggest cave system in the Philippines and one
of the largest in Southeast Asia. The cave system is 7 kilometers long encompassing an
area of 900 square kilometers. Inside the cave are surreal stalactites, stalagmites, columns
and other types of speleothems. Most notable sites on the cave are “The Football Field”
and “The Stage“. Exploring the cave is challenging since visitors will do rappelling, rock
climbing and long trekking but a perfect destination for the adventurous hearts.
5. Ban-awan Falls is located in Lawaan, Eastern Samar. Tucked in the jungle-clad part
of the mainland of Eastern Samar is the highest and most majestic waterfalls in the entire
province, the Ban-awan Falls. The waterfall is a surreal sight to behold as it strongly
falls below from a very steep cliff while the area is surrounded with lush greens. It is one
of the main sources of water system in the municipality of Lawaan along with the
Amandaraga Falls. Going here though requires physical fitness since visitors would be
following a challenging trail leading to the falls.
6. Napantao Marine Sanctuary is one of the best tourist spots in Southern Leyte if you
love diving and interested in marine lifeforms. It features a natural large wall underwater
that drops around 50 meters coated with beautiful and colorful diverse corals where
schools of fish can be found. Turtles and white tip reef sharks can also be sighted. The
best time to go diving at Napantao Marine Sanctuary is on dry season (March to May)
since visibility underwater is good during sunny days.
