QUESTION 1
MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS
Various options are provided as possible answers to the following
questions. Each question has only ONE correct answer. Choose the
answer and write the letter (A-D) next the question numbers (1.1 to 1.10)
in the ANSWER SHEETS e.g. 1.11 B.

Two cars A and B, are moving at speeds of 15 m.s-1 and 20 m.s-1 in the
same direction on a straight road. They are side by side when both drivers
observe an obstruction on the road 70 m a head of them, as shown the
diagram below.

Both drivers apply their brakes and accelerate at - 4.5 m.s-2 until both cars
come to stop. Ignore the reaction time of the drivers.
3.3 Draw the sketch of velocity- time graph of the motion of car A. On the
graph indicate the initial velocity, final velocity and the time taken.(3)

When lightning occurs both sound and light are produced at the same time.
Usually the visible light is seen before the thundering sound is heard later.
Sometimes rain bow (spectrum of white light) is seen in the sky.
5.1 State TWO differences between sound wave and light wave. (2)
5.3 Ultrasound and X-rays are commonly used in the medical treatment
of patients due to their penetration ability through human flesh.

Sphere A carries a charge of + 4 x 10 C, while sphere B has an excess of
50 electrons.
The spheres are now released and they move towards each other.
6.2 Give a reason why the spheres A and B move towards each other.(1)
The spheres are allowed to touch each other. After touching they
separated and moved away from each other.

A 3 kg ball at point X, rolls from rest from the top of inclined plane 2m
above the ground. The ball reaches the ground level at the point Y and
continues to roll on level ground. Ignore the effects of friction between the
ball and the inclined surface.

9.2 Calculate the gravitational potential energy of the ball just before it
rolls down the incline plane. (3)
9.4 Use the principle in QUESTION 9.3 to calculate the magnitude of the
velocity of the ball when it reaches the ground at the point Y. (4)
