Hello First Grade Parents & Guardians!

I am using the newsletter this week to tell you all about a

new digital resource that we are using in our first grade
mathematics classroom! I am very excited to tell about
the app, how it works, how it is furthering your child’s
learning, and how much all of the students have been
enjoying this new platform!

What is Moose Math?

Moose Math is an app made by the company Duck Duck
Moose. The app provides growing learners with fun and
engaging mathematics practice. Students are practicing
their addition & subtraction facts, counting & sorting skills,
and geometry skills through shape matching games.
When students solve a problem or game correctly, they
are given rewards that they use to build their own city.
Moose Math is based off of the Common Core State
Standards, so as an educator, I feel confident that
students are truly learning while engaging with this
technology.

Why are we using Moose Math in the classroom?

In my opinion, Moose Math is a really wonderful resource for our
students! Below are the reasons why:
Moose Math is age appropriate. This app targets students in
Kindergarten and 1st grade, making it a great resource for the
students I teach. The skills practiced on the app are
appropriate for their grade level and follow the Common Core
State Standards.
Moose Math is conducive to all learners. The activities all
have multiple levels and as learners progress, their Moose
Math levels do too. This means that Moose Math is effective
for students who are doing very well with their mathematical
concepts and students who are still struggling.
Moose Math is educational & effective. It is extremely
important for the students to master the skills practiced on
Moose Math and these skills mirror the work we are doing in
the classroom. Moose Math is just one aspect of all the
learning we do.
Moose Math is fun for the kids! Students are engaged with the
content and want to earn their rewards in the app. It is a win-
win when students can have fun and learn at the same time!

Reminders

You can use Moose Math at home, as well! It is a free app, available
on the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store for
Android users. Using this tool, and other educational apps and
websites at home, will help further your child’s learning and
understanding of concepts introduced in the classroom!
