Mariana: Today we are going to rank our top 5 must-see films, which we think everyone

should watch! If you are looking for some state-of-the-art movies in your favorite genre or
looking for a different one to test your tastes, this rank will deeply help you!
In fifth place is Prisoners. Released in 2013, is an American thriller directed by Denis
Villeneuve and written by Aaron Guzikowski. It has a well-chosen cast including Hugh
Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis. The story is set in Boston and centers on a
father who must deal with the disappearance of his daughter and her friend. When he
suspects that the detective in charge of the investigation has already given up looking for the
guilty, he desperately starts to distrust everyone around him. Doing his own investigation, he
ends up finding the main suspect and decides to take the law into his own hands in a quick-
witted and strong-willed manner. Full of tension, it was an audience pleaser. The movie as a
whole is an examination of the kinds of prisons people find themselves in physically,
mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Now, in fourth place is Mean Girls. Released in 2004, is an American teen comedy
directed by Mark Watters and written by Tina Fey. It has a masterpiece cast including
Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Lacey Chabert.
The plot of the story centers on the 16-year-old homeschooled Cady Heron. She and her
parents return to the United States after 12 years in Africa, settling in Evanston, Illinois. After
an intimidating 1st day at North Shore High School, Cady makes two friends: Janis Ian and
Damian Leigh, who explain the school's various groups and warn her to avoid the "Plastics",
a group consisting of wealthy but insecure Gretchen Wieners, sweet but dimwitted Karen
Smith, and "queen bee" Regina George. Cady is suddenly invited to sit with the Plastics at
lunch, Janis persuades Cady to infiltrate their group.
Full of humorous moments, Mean Girls grossed $130 million worldwide and has become
a cult classic. We would recommend this gripping film to teenagers or people who want to
laugh and have a great time, whether alone or with friends.

Lorenza: And now, in third place is To The Bone. Released in 2017, in an American Drama
written and directed by Lily Collins, and starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie Preston. The
story is set in Arizona and centers on Ellen, a 20-year-old college dropout dealing with
anorexia, who returns to the house of her stepmother and father after struggling through an
in-patient program and failing to make any progress. With her absentee father unwilling to
deal with her, Ellen's stepmother, Susan, sets her up with a specialist, Dr. William Beckham,
who insists that Ellen join his patient program. Ellen is reluctant to do so, but her mind is
changed by her younger sister. The story then centers on her way to fight her disease. With
powerful scenes, it is a realistic portrayal of the reality of people who suffer with mental
illness, so it is definitely not to be missed.
Now, in second place it is Matilda. Released in 1996, is a fantasy comedy directed by
Denni DeVito and with an exceptional performance by Mara Wilson. This movie tells the
story of Matilda Wormwood, a 6-year-old genius, who has telekinetic powers. However, her
parents, Harry and Zinnia, and her brother Michael ignore and mistreat her. From early
childhood, Matilda has shown incredible learning ability and develops a strong sense of
independence due to her being home alone every day of the week when her father is at
work, her mother is playing bingo, and Michael is at school. To pass the time, Matilda learns
her way to the public library to read books and find refuge in the fantasy worlds that books
offer. At the age of six and a half, Matilda begins to lose her temper with her parents,
expressing a desire to go to school. After much insistence, Matilda managed to go there and
started having to deal with some problems. Matilda is definitely a smash-hit, a classic. We
would recommend it to every kid and teenager, because it really shows how necessary it is
to broaden your mind and knowledge.

Mari: And now, finally, the first place, The Swimmers. Recently released on Netflix, it was
based on real facts and is about Yusra Mardini, a Syrian girl. The main plot of the movie is:
right back in 2015, Yusra and her family were in danger, since the Syrian civil war was
happening. So, with her dream in mind, Mardini decided to run away from Syria with Sarah,
her sister. Their aim was basically to get to Germany and continue their carrieres there, but
always representing their country. However, to get there, they needed to face many
difficulties and problems, such as the lack of money and a nearly sunken boat. Because they
really needed to take this boat to get to Lesbos` Island, and it was supposed to take up to 6
or 8 people. But, despite this rule, there were around 20 refugees. And as you can imagine,
it didn't end well. The boat`s engine suddenly stopped working and a lot of water started to
come in and fill the boat. So, to survive, Yusra and her sister needed to swim for more than 3
hours pulling the boat in the middle of the Aegean sea, until they got to the Island. They
managed to do it safely and no one was injured.
On their journey to Germany, they passed through Turkey, Lebanon, Greece. So, in this
movie you can see how hard it is for the refugees to just be in a safe place and be accepted
by the society as a refugee. And because of that, we would recommend it to everyone, since
it definitely gives you another perspective on refugees`lives and challenges your pre-
assumptions.

Lorenza: So, these were films that we think are masterpieces and must-sees! And now we
are going to play a game to test your knowledge not only about the movies that we talked
about, but also your vocabulary in this topic of describing and reviewing a serie or movie.
