Artists And Normal People

What normal people see What ARTISTS see

You might have heard that artists see the world “differently”. Sim-
ply the reason is artists learned to solve tasks by observing the shapes of
the objects more than ordinary people.
you have to practice your eyes to see the basic head in faces first before
jumping into the details. Your first goal is to force your eye to see the
BASIC head.

 Important Note

The most simplified version of the human head allows you to fol-
low a process in order to learn how to draw a portrait and teaches you
about the structure of the face.
The basic head starts with a solid sphere that’s cut off on the sides.
and that makes the sphere looks more like the human cranium. the cut-
off looks like an oval because of perspective and it becomes a circle
when the head is turned.

The circle represents the skull (not the hair).

The eyebrow is in the center of the sphere.

The cut-off ends at the corner of the eyebrow.
Connect the corner of the eyebrow to the top of the ear.

 Draw the center line (you can draw a straight line or curve).

The space between the hairline and the eyebrow is similar to the
space between the eyebrow and the nose, and from the nose to the chin
(sometimes it is not. It depends on the reference and the position of the
face but usually it’s the same).

 Practice Makes Progress

To better understand the structure you must practice almost every-

day (atleast 10 minutes). Use the practice sheet to get familiar with this
method and try to following the same process. After that start using the
reference list WITHOUT the guidelines. The guidelines are just to help
you start.
