Preamble

The Secondary School Art Compressed scope and sequence is a content outline of the Secondary School Curriculum for the out of school and in school
learners. This document is designed to conform to the National Secondary School Curriculum. It is designed to cover the three levels of learning at Secondary
school which are Level 1 (Form 1 and 2), Level 2 (Form 3 and 4) and level 3(Form 5 and 6). The intention is to cover as much ground as possible to catch
up in the teaching learning process due to lost time as a result of Covid-19 lockdown. The document outlines the skills, content and concepts to be taught at
each level. It enables both teachers and learners to pick on important concepts for each learning area at a faster pace.

Aims
The aims of this compressed syllabus are to:

• Facilitate teaching and learning for the in school and out of school learners
• Accelerate learning at Secondary School levels 1,2 and 3
Objectives:
The objectives of this compressed syllabus are to:

• highlight the key concepts and sub-topics for each topic to be covered
• suggest learner-centred methodologies which can accelerate learning
• bridge identified gaps as a catch up strategy

Methodologies
The learner-centred approach is essential in educational acquisition. An approach involving problem identification and solving using the environment should
be employed. The approach encourages curiosity and leads to logical systematic questions by leaners. The teacher is encouraged to use methods and activities
that will accelerate covering of content and skills development in a short space of time. An integrated approach to concepts coverage is also encouraged. The
following suggested methods could be employed in the teaching and learning process:

• Story telling
• Imitation and simulation

2|Page
• Exploration
• Research
• Project
• Experimentation
• Games and quizzes
• Problem solving
• Field trips/use of local environment
• Drama, song and poetry
