BUSINESS ETHICS

ACTIVITY I

THE MOST ETHICAL WAYS IN ORDER FOR YOU TO HANDLE THE SAID
SITUATIONS BELOW IN AN ETHICAL WAY:
If you are a Manager/Owner of an Organization and have realized that you have given an
incorrect information or advertisement to your customers, the most ethical action would be to?

If you want your boss to approve your plan for hiring two new people.

- I will publicly apologize to all who view the commercial, especially to those who have
already purchased our products, and inform them that our company will gladly accept any
returns and refund requests they may have if false information or advertisement was
provided.

You want to be hired for a job.

- -I will inform my boss of my plans to hire two new employees and the rationale for my
hiring decisions.

You want to be granted a loan.

- -I will explain to them why I needed a loan and assure them that I would repay it by the
deadline.
You want to collect a small amount of money from a regular customer whose account is
slightly past due.

- I will politely inform the consumer that their account is past due, chat to them
respectfully, and encourage them to pay just a little portion of the debt since it is already
past due.

You want to collect a large amount of money from a customer whose account is seriously
past due.

- I will approach the customer with a friendly and calm demeanor, inform him or her that
the debt is already past due, and explain our arrangement so that I may seek payment
from him or her as the debt is already over the payment deadline.

You want to collect a large amount of money from a supplier from a refund of goods not
delivered.

- -I'll approach them calmly and ask that I need a refund because the items I ordered were
not delivered; instead of complaining further, I will politely deal with the supplier.

You want to collect a large amount of money from a supplier from a refund of goods that
are defective.

- -I will calmly inform the supplier that the products they sent were flawed and that I
would like my money back as a result.
ACTIVITY II

You work at a paper supply company that employs 50 people. A coworker, Karen,
is not your favorite person to work with. She is often late to work, can be
unprofessional with coworkers, and isn’t someone you can routinely count on to go
above and beyond her job duties. Last week you even noticed that her breath
smelled like alcohol when you spoke to her about some last-minute orders that
needed to be filled. But, you don’t like to rock the boat and you don’t like to be
disloyal to your coworkers, so you didn’t say anything. However, David Chan just
approached you and asked whether you smelled alcohol on Karen’s breath last
Thursday. You are surprised and ask him why. David mentions that he heard some
gossip and wants to confirm if it is true or not.

What will you do?

1. Should you admit you smelled alcohol on Karen’s breath last week? Why or why not?
- In my opinion, I wouldn't tell David anything; instead, I would advise him to go
ask Karen about it, since the only way he can truly get the truth is to speak with
those who are directly involved. Additionally, Karen might become upset with
me, and I don't want my coworker to have resentment for me.
2. What are the implications of each course of action?
- For Karen, her action could get the company into difficulty because if someone
found out, they would spread rumors about it. To prevent any issues with the other
party, David should approach the individual directly if he really wants to know if
the rumor was accurate.
3. Would you change your answer if, instead of working at a paper supply company,
you worked as a nurse?
- Although I have already stated that I cannot just meddle with someone's life,
Karen's action may generate problems, especially with the patients. But that will
still depend on the situation.
