History of Barangay GUEVARA

Barangay Guevara is situated in the Northern part of the town of La Paz and located 5.10 kms.
from La Paz Town proper. This place is a high level land so it is not easily reached by water especially during
rainy days. This is the reason why many people from places like Bulacan and Pampanga and even Nueva Ecija
came to settle in this place. They began to built their shelters, plant vegetables and rear animals as their
source of livelihood. One time unexpected happenings came to life. It rained so hard and strong winds
destroyed their houses, trees were uprooted and all their belongings were damaged because it lasted for
many days.

Disappointments touched their lives and shouted to the peak of their voice the word “Giba na,
Giba na” until when the Spaniards came to the place and learned what is wrong with their words “Giba na”
and they show them that all their belongings were damaged and washed away. So, they wrote the word “Giba
na “ and later on they polished the word Giba na to Guevara to make it sound nicer and be a happier place to
live in.
Barangay Guevara is the Second Biggest Barangay in the Municipality of La Paz. It has a total
land area of 786,235 sq. m. It is next in size to Barangay Comillas which has a total land area of 902,000 sq. m.
The main dialect in the barangay is Tagalog which is 75%.Only 15% are Ilocanos and the
remaining 5% represent other dialect which is Kapampangan.
Since most of the people of Barangay Guevara is inclined into farming,almost 55% of its total
land area is for agricultural use.The other 35% is used as residential areas and the remaining 10% is for social
services in the barangay like: Barangay hall,Plazuela,School,Cemetery and Churches.
The Pioneers of this place are the families of Julian Cruzcosa I,Felisa Talon Cruzcosa, Felipe
Clemente, Leonidas Cadamia,Eustaquio Garcia and Arcadia Cadamia.
