“Hip-hop & Funk Dance”

Dancing is an art form that consists of improvised or carefully determined

sequences of bodily movements with aesthetic and frequently symbolic value. Dance can
be classified and described based on its choreography, movement repertory, or historical
time or location of origin. There are different types of dances: Ballroom Dances, African-
American and Traditional Jazz dances, Worldwide Dances/ Latin dances,
Professional Performance dance, Modern Dances and lastly Hip-hop & Funk dance.
Hip-hop dance is a distinct and lively style of street dancing that is typically
performed to hip-hop music. Hip-hop dancing is a vivacious kind of dance that mixes a
wide range of freestyle movements to create a cultural work of art. Hip-hop dancing has
evolved into one of the most popular and influential dance styles through its three major
techniques of popping, locking, and breaking.
Hip-Hop dancing evolved from the music style that was initially introduced in the
1970s. Hip-hop dances gained a strong foothold in the United States, France, the United
Kingdom, and South Korea as a result of its widespread popularity and exposure in the
media, movies, and television programs. Throughout the 1970s, a very similar style called
Funk was also formed, and it is now regarded as one of the most influential components
of Hip-hop dance forms.
While hip-hop began as an informal street dance intended for the people present,
it has since grown into the stage and cinema and become a fan favorite. Hip-hop is
become a highly sought-after and dominant dancing form. It is one of the most popular
dancing genres for music videos, concerts, and dance contests. It can be found in a
variety of dance studios, teaching its distinctive and energetic compilation of movements
to both young and old students. Hip-hop dance has changed the dance world and taken
the dance culture by storm. Several of its characteristic techniques are frequently
incorporated into the choreography of more traditional dance styles, and it has even found
its way into big theatrical and film performances.
Hip-hop dance is a vibrant form of exercise, art, and movement that fosters
individual expression and unquestionable skill. There is different category under the hip-
hop and funk dance: The Breakdance, Bounce, Electric boogaloo, Street Jazz,
Jookin’, Locking and lastly Popping.
The Breakdance is usually danced solo. This dance needs skilled dancers to
perform a series of structured or freeform dance and athletic motions to music that is
typically breakbeat, hip-hop or funk. Breakdance, one of the most athletic dances in the
world, rose to prominence in the 1970s as a street dance in New York's Bronx. It has now
expanded all over the world, where it is regarded as one of the most unique dancing styles
ever created.
Bounce dance can today be danced both in its common and hypersexual form. It
was formed in the 1980s as a fusion of New Orleans hip-hop music and Mardi Gras Indian
chanting. Because it is so strongly associated with Mardi Gras traditions, many variants
of Bounce nowadays are highly localized and can seldom be seen dancing outside of the
music scenes of New Orleans, Miami, Baltimore, and other music hotspots.
The funk form of hip-hop was popularized not only by its music, but also by the
worldwide acceptance of the iconic dance style known as Electric Boogaloo, which was
first pushed in the 1970s by the same name dance group. Electric Boogaloo is a free-
form and structured dance that features a broad variety of motions centered on the
movement of the legs, hips, and knees, as well as the frequent usage of exaggerated
robotic-like moves.
Street Jazz it was created with the influences of African American slaves. Jazz
dance became popular in the early twentieth century as any style of dance performed
alongside then-new Jazz music. Jazz dance, which is highly improvisational and freeform,
swiftly evolved into a performance dance that resembled parts of ballet. Currently, Jazz
dancing is enjoyed in numerous styles which are together dubbed "modern jazz dance".
Jookin', also known as "gangsta waling," is a street dance that emerged in the
1990s on the streets of Memphis, Tennessee. The movement set of the dance seeks to
imitate the "bounce" in the core beat of the crunk music that typically accompanies this
dance form. Although though this dance has gained popularity around the world, it is still
a localized dance that is rarely seen outside of Memphis.
The "locking" form of funk dancing is one of its most well-known variations. The
primary gimmick of this hip-hop dancing style is to abruptly halt and hold the position (or
get locked) in the middle of dance routines for a brief period of time, then abruptly resume
the dance. It necessitates full-body movement, yet the majority of the dance is centered
on the top half of the body. Many Locking dancers prefer to supplement their dance
routines with numerous acrobatic and physically difficult maneuvers.
Popping is another variant of the funk-themed street dance that gained worldwide
popularity in the 1960s and 1970s. To effectively dance Popping, dancers must grasp
regulated and fast contrasting and releasing of muscles, creating the sensation of a jerk
across the body. This jerk is known as a "pop" or "hit," and it can be used to enhance
dancing routines, movements, and possession.
Hip-hop dancing is a popular and dynamic dance style that is typically
accompanied by hip-hop music. It is popular among young people all across the world.
Hip-hop dance is popular among young people because it allows them to create their own
moves. It allows young people to express their personalities and emotions in innovative
ways. Hip-hop dance also demonstrates that they are optimistic about life and are not
afraid of obstacles.
