LOCKDOWN IN WEST BENGAL

New Delhi, 23 November, 2021: Normal life has been affected across West Bengal due to the
COVID 19 virus. People are encouraged to remain indoors as lockdown will be enforced across
the state from 27th November for 2 weeks. All government and private establishments, banks,
shops will remain closed due to the lockdown. Schools, colleges and universities will be closed.
All gyms, shopping malls and parks will be closed to the public. Essential services, such as
medicine shops and milk supply will be kept out of the purview of the shutdown. Local markets
and petrol pumps will also remain operational during the day.Flight services at Kolkata
international airport will remain suspended, while long-distance trains will be rescheduled at
Howrah and Sealdah terminal. Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March, over 1.5 lakh
people contracted the disease in Bengal, of which at least 3,100 succumbed to the dreaded virus.
With the numbers rising since the beginning of November, the WB government has decided that
a lockdown will help control the rising cases of infection in the state. The situation will be
reviewed by a special committee after 2 weeks before declaring any relief.
