INTRODUCTORY RITES
The Priest approaches the altar with the minister and after making a profound bow with the minister,
venerates the altar with a kiss and goes to the chair. Then the minister or the Priest himself recites
the Entrance Antiphon and the Priest and the minister, standing, sign themselves with the Sign of the
Cross, while the Priest, facing the minister, says:

Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the

Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen
Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your Spirit.
In the following or similar words, the minister prepares those present for the blessing:

Priest: As Jesus taught us, we pray, “Thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven” we want
God to reign in our hearts and in the hearts
of all men and women. Peace, love, joy and
justice are the values of God’s kingdom. God
want us to live and share these values. Today
as we celebrate the first day of our Triduum
mass in honor to our patron saint, Saint
Ignatius of Loyola, we celebrate also the
FIL-Mission Sunday, Let us pray for the
intentions of the Missionary of our Lady of
La Salette and Filipino missionaries sent all
over the world, they may continue to preach
the kingdom of God more boldly and
courageously.

The Liturgy of the Word

First reading
(1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12)

A reading from the book of Kings.

THE LORD appeared to Solomon in a
dream at night. God said, "Ask something
of me and I will give it to you." Solomon
answered: "O LORD, my God, you have
made me, your servant, king to succeed
my father David; but I am a mere youth,
not knowing at all how to act. I serve you
in the midst of the people whom you have
chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be
numbered or counted. Give your servant,
therefore, an understanding heart to judge
your people and to distinguish right from
wrong. For who is able to govern this vast
people of yours?"
The LORD was pleased that Solomon
made this request. So God said to him:

Roman Missal:17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"Because you have asked for this-not for a

long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor
for the life of your enemies, but for
understanding so that you may know what
is right- I do as you requested. I give you a
heart so wise and understanding that there
has never been anyone like you up to now,
and after you there will come no one to
equal you."

-The Word of the Lord-

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
(Ps 119)

LORD, I LOVE YOUR COMMANDS.

1. I have said, O Lord, that my part is to
keep your words./ The law of your mouth
is to me more precious than thousands of
gold and silver pieces.—(.R.)
2. Let your kindness comfort me/
according to your promise to your
servants./ Let your compassion come to
me that I may live,/ for your law is my
delight.— (R.)
3. For I love your command / more than
gold, however fine./ For in all your
precepts I go forward;/ every false way I
hate.—(R.)
4. Wonderful are your decrees;/ therefore
I observe them./ The revelation of your
words sheds light,/ giving understanding
to the simple. (.R.)

Second reading
(Rom 8:28-30)

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the

Romans.

BROTHERS and sisters:

We know that all things work for good
for those who love God, who are called
according to his purpose. For those he
foreknew he also predestined to be
conformed to the image of his Son, so that
he might be the firstborn among many
brothers and sisters.
And those he predestined he also
called; and those he called he also
justified; and those he justified he also
glorified.

Gospel
(Mt 13:44-52)

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: and with your Spirit.
Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel
according to Matthew.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
JESUS said to his disciples:
"The kingdom of heaven is like a
treasure buried in a field, which a
person finds and hides again, and
out of joy goes and sells all that he
has and buys that field. Again, the
kingdom of heaven is like a
merchant searching for fine
pearls. When he finds a pearl of

9

great price, he goes and sells all

that he has and buys it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven
is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good
into buckets. What is bad they
throw away.

Thus, it will be at the end of

the age. The angels will go out
and separate the wicked from the
righteous and throw them into the
fiery furnace, where there will be
wailing and grinding of teeth.

"Do you understand all these

things?" They answered, "Yes."

10
Abenglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal:17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

And he replied, "Then every

scribe who has been instructed in
the kingdom of heaven is like the
head of a household who brings
from his storeroom both the new
and the old."

-The Gospel of the Lord-

All: Praise to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.

Profession of Faith
Priest/ All:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible
and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father
before all ages. God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us men
and for our salvation he came down from
heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance
with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven

12
Abenglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal:17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no
end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver
of life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken through
the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church. I confess one Baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful

Priest:
God our Father has given us the gift of
faith as a treasure and a pearl of great
price. Let us continue to cherish this gift
and share it with people around us by
giving up to the demands of our faith.
Let us pray:
FATHER, REVEAL TO US THE
MYSTERIES OF YOUR
KINGDOM.
1.That Pope Francis, and all Church leaders
may work tirelessly toward making the
kingdom of heaven permeate and be
proclaimed to all nations and people. We
pray.
2.May we hold to our faith and values and see
them as true and lasting treasures, and not be
seduced by the passing joys of power,
prestige, and pleasure. We pray.

14
Abenglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal:17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

3.May the leaders of nations work for

prosperity and progress without forgetting
human dignity and the Gospel’s values. We
pray.
4.For these altar servers, that the light of
Christ may shine in their hearts. We pray.
5.For these altar servers, that the preparation
they make for the celebration of the liturgy,
may remind us to prepare our hearts for
worship. We pray.
6.That all missionaries around the world
joyfully share their talents and possessions at
the service of the people, especially the poor,
the sick, and the needy. We pray.
7.That those who have died, especially
missionaries, may at last find their “pearl of
great price” in the heavenly kingdom ad
attain eternal peace with you, O God. We
pray.
8.Let us pray for the urgent concern of our
community and our personal intention
(Pause). We pray

Priest: Loving Father, reveal to us the

mysteries of your Kingdom. Let your

kingdom come to and through us.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist
The Celebrant, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly raised
above the altar with both hands, silently he prays:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. The Celebrant pours wine and a little
water into the chalice, saying quietly:

By the mystery of this water and wine

may we come to share in the divinity of
Christ who humbled himself to share in our
humanity.
The Celebrant then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands,
silently he prays:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it
will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal. After this, the Celebrant, bowing profoundly, says quietly:

Roman Missal:17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

With humble spirit and contrite heart may

we be accepted by you, O Lord,
and may our sacrifice in your sight this day
be pleasing to you, Lord God.
He also incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. Then, the deacon incenses the Celebrant,
the concelebrants and the people. Then the Celebrant, standing at the side of the altar, washes his
hands, saying quietly:

Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and

cleanse me from my sin.
Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands, he says:

Priest:
Pray brethren (brothers and sisters)
that may sacrifice and yours may be
acceptable to God the almighty Father.
All: May the Lord Accept the Sacrifice at your
hands. for the Praise and Glory of his Name
for our good and the good of all his Holy
Church.
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

Priest:
Accept, O Lord, we pray, the offerings
which we bring from the abundance of your
gifts, that through the powerful working of
your grace these most sacred mysteries may
sanctify our present way of life and lead us
to eternal gladness.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
The Priest, with hands extended, says:

Y ou are indeed Holy, O Lord, the

fount of all holiness.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

M ake holy, therefore, these gifts, we

pray, by sending down your Spirit upon
them like the dewfall,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the
chalice together, saying:

so that they may become for us the

Body and  Blood of our Lord, Jesus
Christ.
He joins his hands.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

At the time he was betrayed and

entered willingly into his Passion,
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and, giving thanks,

broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF

IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH
WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration.
After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was

ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice and, once more

giving thanks, he gave it to his
disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK

FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF
MY BLOOD,

Then he says:

Therefore, as we celebrate the

the Bread of life and the Chalice of
salvation, giving thanks that you have
held us worthy to be in your presence
and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that, partaking of the

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

from sin and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope and
the coming of our Savior, Jesus
Christ.
All: For the kingdom, the power and the
glory are yours now and for ever.

Then the Priest, with hands extended, says aloud:

L ord Jesus Christ, who said to

Priest:
Let us offer each other the sign of

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him

who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper
of the Lamb.
All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should
enter under my roof, but only say the
word and my soul shall be healed.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Priest:
Let us pray (Pause)
We have consumed, O Lord, this

PRAYER TO SAINT IGNATIUS

The commentator invites everyone to kneel. The Celebrant, together with the concelebrating priests,
remain standing, while saying the following prayer with the people:

F ather and Master Ignatius, discerner of the ways

of God, faithful friend of the Lord, and humble
servant of Christ and the gospel beneath the
banner of the cross; untiring seeker of the
greater glory of God through discernment and
prayer, docile disciple in obedience to the Lord
and his spouse the Church; you desired neither
riches nor honor, but were content instead to be
poor with the poor Christ spurned with Christ
spurned, as long as the Holy Name of Jesus our
Savior was announced to all peoples.

that we may seek and find in all things God’s

divine presence and know his sovereign will.

To you, Father Ignatius, and to the heavenly

Society we entrust ourselves, so that, confirmed
in faith, refreshed in hope, and inflamed by
evangelical charity, we may love and serve the
Lord in all things and renew each day our
prayer of offering:
Take, Lord, receive all my liberty,
my memory, understanding, my entire will— all
that I have and possess;
you have given to me, to you, Lord, I return it.
all is yours now;
do with it what you will.

Give me only your love and your grace; that is

enough for me.
We ask this in the name of Christ Jesus, our
Lord. Amen.
