THERMODYNAMICS
THERMODYNAMICS
Thermodynamics is the branch of physics
that deals with the relationships between
heat and other forms of energy. In
particular, it describes how thermal energy
is converted to and from other forms of
energy and how thermal energy affects
matter.

1st Law Equation

∆𝑈 = 𝑄 − 𝑊
∆𝑈 = 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦
𝑄 = 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑡
𝑊 = 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑘
Problem: 1

Calculate the change in the

internal energy of a system if 300 J
of heat energy is added to it and if
the system performs 200 J of work.
Problem: 2

Determine the change in the internal energy of a

system if 700J of heat energy were removed from it
and if 400J of work was done on the system.

Problem: 3

Calculate the change in the internal energy of a

system if the system performs 450 J of work and 250J
of heat energy is removed from the system.
Problem: 4

1500 J of heat energy was added to a gas.

The gas expands at a constant pressure of
45,000 Pa from 0.02m^3 to 0.05m^3. a.)
How much work was performed by the gas
or on the gas? b.) Calculate the change in
internal energy of the system.
Problem: 5

3500 J of heat energy was added to a gas.

The gas expands at a constant pressure of
15,250 Pa from 0.04m^3 to 0.55m^3. a.)
How much work was performed by the gas
or on the gas? b.) Calculate the change in
internal energy of the system.
Problem: 6

2500 J of heat energy was removed from a

gas. The gas compressed at a constant
pressure of 3 atm from 25L to 15L. a.) How
much work was performed by the gas or on
the gas? b.) Calculate the change in internal
energy of the system.
Problem: 7

1750 J of heat energy was removed from a

gas. The gas compressed at a constant
pressure of 2.5 atm from 40L to 25L. a.)
How much work was performed by the gas
or on the gas? b.) Calculate the change in
internal energy of the system.
Experiment 1

1. Alisin ang takip ng bottled water at

ilagay ang balloon sa ulo nito.
2. Ipatong sa timba ang bote.
3. Punuin ng mainit na tubig ang timba.
4. Observed what happened to the balloon
Experiment 2

1. Kumuha ng kapirasong foil at ibalik sa palito

ng posporo.
2. Gumawa ng buntot para maging rocket ito.
3. Isuksok sa isa pang palito ng posporo at
ipatong.
4. Sindihan ang posporo na nakabalot sa foil
gamit ang kandila.
5. Dapat lilipad ang ito!!!
