Germany Position Paper 1

Topic: Civil society participation and oversight of firearms

Comittee: Commitee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
Country: Germany

Within the UN there have neen summits on the issue of firearms such as when
The United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (COP)
encouraged the delegates to follow guidlines in the Protocol ,set up by UNDOC.
This talked about how countries should better maintain their firearm
destructubility by a better tracking of firearms and focuses on areas where
firearms are assembled/manufactured. There was also another establishment by
UNDOC GLobal firearms programme, which atttempted to tighten legal
punishments for firearm-related crimes to ensure justice for those affected by
firearms ( lost family members, injuered relatives etc.). Though this is good effort
by the UN, many attempted solutions have not had a great impact.

The German system of gun control is among the most stringent in Europe. It
restricts the acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms to those with a
creditable need for a weapon. It bans fully automatic weapons and severely
restricts the acquisition of other types of weapons. Compulsory liability insurance
is required for anyone who is licensed to carry firearms.this germany has a very
small firearm due death rate.
