Assignment 2
Calculation of the IHIP by the Volumetric Method

1. What are the methods used for determining IHIP?

2. Discuss, briefly, the methods used for determining IHIP volumetrically (from
both isopach maps and structure contour maps).

3. A bottom water drive reservoir has the following data:

Cw =Cf = 3.5 x 10-6 psi-1 , Swc = 25 %, Map scale = 1:15000 ,  = 20 % , and βoi
= 1.38 bbl/stb.

line (OWC)
Area, inch2 66 60 54 48 42 36 30 24 18 8 0

You are required to calculate the original oil in place (N) using the volumetric
method (using both Trapezoidal and Simpson methods). Which one is more
accurate? And why?

4. A bottom water drive reservoir has the following data: Pi = 4500 psi, θ =230°,
 = 28 % , rw =7840 ft, Swc =27 %, h = 138 ft , βoi = 1.45 bbl/stb. Using the
volumetric method, calculate the OOIP (N).

5. A gas cap reservoir has the following data:

Swi =30 %, Sor =25 %, βoi = 1.4 bbl/stb, βgi = 0.0012 bbl/scf,  = 25 %, Map scale
= 1:1000, OWC at 0 contour line, and GOC at 55 contour line.

You are required to calculate:

 The original oil in place (N).
 The initial gas cap volume (G).
 The value of gas oil ratio (m).

6. Using the volumetric method, calculate the OOIP, N, and the IGIP, G, for the
following reservoir data:
 = 20 %, Swi =30 %, βgi = 0.001 bbl/scf, βoi = 1.3 bbl/stb, Map scale = 1:20000
