Laboratory Report Format

While preparing the laboratory report for each of the laboratory, provide the following sections, giving the
specific information for each section as explained below.

Cover Page: Provide all the necessary details about yourself in the cover page.

Table of Contents: Automatically Insert a Table of Contents in the second page

1. BACKGROUND
1.1 Brief Description of the Laboratory
Describe the objectives of the practical in this section, including the sequence of activities you
will undertake to accomplish the stated objectives
1.2 Required Apparatus/ Materials
List down all the materials, tools, components, devices and software requirements for the
laboratory under this subtopic. Provide the specification/ rating of each component
1.3 Circuit Diagrams
Prove the circuit topologies on how you intend to interconnect the apparatus and materials
during the practical. Briefly describe each diagram
1.4 Theory of Operation of the Various Components
In this section, provide answers to all the VIVA Questions in the laboratory manual
1.5 Expected Theoretical Results
Explain what kind of curves, plots, measurements or tabulated values do you intend to use as
inputs and what are the expected outputs
2. MATHEMATICAL MODELING
2.1 Model Equations
State or derive, the mathematical expression of your circuit that relates the input variables to
the output variables
2.2 Assumptions
Explain any assumptions you made while establishing the mathematical model of (2.1) above
2.3 Sample Data Inputs
Provide a table of randomly assumed input variables that can be used as inputs to the
mathematical model that you’ve stated above (in 2.1)
2.4 Extrapolated Results
Using the mathematical equation/ expression (2.1), compute the output values
2.5 Mathematical Model Results Analysis
Provide an in-depth analysis of the computed output variables that you’ve extrapolated in 2.4.
You can plot the assumed input variables vs computed output values to infer the relational
trends
3. COMPUTER SIMULATION
3.1 Set up of the Circuit in PSpice/ Proteus
Provide snapshots of the components as interconnected in the simulation software interface,
with a brief description of each snapshot
3.2 Simulation Data and Measurements

Include a table/ table of data that you used to simulate and the corresponding measured values
from the simulation model
3.3 Analysis of Simulation Results
Plot or analyze the tables of results giving the trends in curves and the theory behind the
observations
4. PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION/ BREADBOARD PROTOTYPING
4.1 Set up of the Circuit in a Prototyping Breadboard
Provide photos of the components as interconnected in the prototyping breadboard, with a brief
description of each photo
4.2 Data and Measurements
Include tables of data that you used to experiment and the corresponding/ collected
measurement values from the prototype
4.3 Analysis of Prototype Results
Plot or analyze the tables of results giving the trends in curves and the theory behind the
observations made from the prototype
5. COMPARISON OF RESULTS
5.1 Differences
What are the differences in results that you have achieved in sections 2.5, 3.3 and 4.3.
5.2 Similarities
What are the similarities in results that you have achieved in sections 2.5, 3.3 and 4.3.
5.3 Why?
Explain the reasons behind the observations in sections 5.1 and 5.2, leveraging around
consistence of theory, assumptions, equipment limits and errors
6. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
6.1 Problems Encountered
Explain how you resolved the technical and or non-technical challenges that you encountered
during the laboratory process
6.2 Conclusion
In this section, answer the questions: To what extend did you achieve the objectives of the
practical? and What was the most outstanding observation?
6.3 Recommendation
In this part answer the questions: What other objectives would you have wished to achieve? And
What would be the importance/ benefits of pursuing endeavors in such other objectives,
compared to what you have achieved so far?
