DEVELOPMENT OF
PRECAST
FORMWORKS for
MAKING
STRUCTURAl
members
The aim of this research is to simplify and
speed up the process of constructing structures in
I T a shorter amount of time. Precast formworks are
highly beneficial due to their cost-effectiveness
and the fact that they do not require the use of
M A wood, as they are made of durable plastic.
Additionally, they can be reused for other
construction projects. This innovative process

P N helps to compress project schedules, ensuring

safety and reducing project costs by requiring
fewer individuals to be present at the construction
O C site. The formwork is a temporary structure that
can be used multiple times, serving as a mold for
the pouring of concrete. It is a vertical or
R E horizontal shape that is utilized to keep concrete
in place until it gains strength and takes on a
specific form.
OUTPUT
This study is intended solely for particular structure members,
including balconies or terraces with repeated and identical
members. This unit fits seamlessly onto its structural complement
and can be easily removed after the concrete has been set. Also, it
only allows for concreting the members. Precast formworks can also
be used on the columns as well as on the beams. The researchers
will notice if these precast formworks can carry the strength of
concrete once pouring at a time. The readers will know different
kinds of formworks, how they will be created, and how they will be
placed before pouring the concrete on the specific structure
members.
PROBLEM
The problems that will be faced in this research is how we will provide the
materials that are needed and the efficient and recycled thing that are economical
and lightweight and can carry the designed strength of the concrete that it will be
carried. Also, if sufficient, manufacturers of these precast formworks will produce the
materials needed. The other problem is using recycled materials in producing the
formwork. According to Wei Li, Xiaoshan Lin, Ding Wen Bao, and Yi Min Xie (ELSEVIER),
the use of economical and environmentally friendly materials for formwork
fabrication has drawn worldwide attention in recent years. Formwork systems made
of recyclable materials could be fabricated using digital fabrication techniques,
such as CNC milling and 3D printing, to obtain non-standard geometries. The
investigation of recyclable formwork is still at an early stage, and the application of
recyclable formwork in actual concrete construction is limited.
WHY
Developing this precast formwork aims to speed up
and simplify the construction process. This is evident in
applying the formwork on the footing tie beam and
columns, which replaces traditional formwork. Precast
formwork is preferred because it is eco-friendly and made
of plastic instead of wood. Although it is only suitable for
specific structures, it can significantly reduce costs.

EVACUATION ROUTE
PLANNING IN FLOOD-
SUSCEPTIBLE AREA OF
BALER, AURORA USING
GEOGRAPHIC
INFORMATION SYSTEM
(GIS)
IMPORTANCE
Evacuation is the instant and immediate escape from an
imminent risk or danger. People are frequently forced to evacuate their
homes, communities, cities, and occasionally even states in the wake
of disasters. When a tragedy happens, one might not have much time
to evacuate, so it is crucial to have a plan to get everyone out of harm's
way as fast and effectively as possible (Disaster Preparedness: Family
Evacuation Plan | Habitat for Humanity, n.d.). To avoid stampedes and
other accidents during natural disasters, an effective evacuation route
plan would be the main solution to ensure everyone's safety. This would
be useful in locating the shelter house that is in the lowest amount of
time and distance possible, taking into account the impact of the flood
on the speed of evacuees (Parajuli et al., 2023).
OUTPUT
This study seeks to produce an extensive evacuation
route mapping for flood-susceptible areas in the
Municipality of Baler, Aurora Province, where several flood
events have occurred in the past and are likely to occur in
the future. The anticipated results will be produced using
an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) based on a
Geographic Information System (GIS) and other flood
conditioning parameters (Parajuli et al., 2023).
PROBLEM
For the past few years, numerous typhoons have hit Aurora which
have caused landslides, floods, property damage, food and water
scarcity, and casualties in the province. The following information shows
a few of the many typhoons that devastated Aurora from 2015 to the
present: Typhoon Nona affected Baler in December 2015 (GMA News
Online & GMA News, 2015); Typhoon Sarika (also known as Typhoon Karen
locally) made landfall over Baler in October 2016 (Philippines: Typhoon
Sarika - DREF (MDRPH021) Preliminary Final Report - Philippines, 2017);
floods of tropical storm “Ramil” damaged more than Php 1 million worth
of agricultural crops last November 2017 (Interaksyon, 2017); a state of
calamity was declared in Baler after Typhoon Ulysses' assault on the
province in November 2020 (De Asis, 2020)
PROBLEM
Typhoon Betty’s 3-m high storm surge robbed a resident’s
family of their house, way of life, as well as school supplies for their
children and grandchildren (GMA Integrated News, 2023). This has
proved that Aurora is a typhoon-prone province with no natural
barriers (Tolentino, 2023). Out of all these typhoons, the exact same
statement was released by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction
Management Office (MDDRMO) of Aurora, that they would provide
assistance.
WHY
This study identifies potential locations for additional shelter
Recommendation 01
place allocations. This study can help the government make
decisions on the planning of early warning systems and flood risk
assessments. It also aids in developing an effective evacuation
strategy for risk reduction (Parajuli et al., 2023). Since Aurora has
been proven to be a typhoon-prone province, an effective
evacuation route mapping would be of great help to its
municipalities, particularly in Baler, to mitigate the effects of
typhoons that might hit the province in the future.

DESIGN OF SOLAR-
POWERED AUTOMATIC
RAINWATER HARVESTING
SYSTEM AS AN
ALTERNATIVE WATER
SOURCE FOR NON-
POTABLE WATER
CONSUMPTION
The necessity and efficient use of water, one of
the most fundamental needs for maintaining
I T essential activities, is growing daily.
consumption of the existing water resources is
The

accelerated by population growth and unplanned

M A industrialization. Rainwater harvesting uses the
rainwater falling into the regions after it is stored.
Water collected through rain harvesting can be

P N utilized in many different areas, especially for

domestic use (Ertop et al., 2023). Although rainwater
harvesting (RWH) has been practiced for thousands
O C of years, different countries worldwide have different
current application levels, frequently using
techniques that still need to fully exploit the benefits
R E (Campisano et al., 2017). An innovative rainwater
harvesting system will help provide a sustainable
water supply for domestic consumption.
OUTPUT
The proposed model implements a prototype hardware
model for the rainwater harvesting system from a rooftop
catchment using filtration. This project proposes a reliable solar-
powered automatic rainwater harvesting system that uses
sensors.
PROBLEM
The current water crisis is one of the significant global challenges, and
Recommendation 01
climate change predictions indicate that it will only worsen in the future.
Addressing this issue is essential for regions afflicted by water scarcity since
water accessibility and availability are the most critical restricting factors
for domestic use. According to the World Health Organization (2019), 1 in 10
people in the Philippines still need access to improved water sources.
Economic growth is a "thirsty business." Water is a vital factor in production,
so diminishing water supplies translates into slower growth, according to
the World Bank (2023).
WHY
This project will help provide an alternative and sustainable
water resource system not only in the places where the
availability and accessibility of water are poor but also in some
places that don't have electricity and places that frequently brown
out. It is not only conserving water but also electricity. And last, It is
an essential and timely project that will add economic growth to
the community.
