The 2nd day INSET was started by a prayer from Ms. Alexandra A. Espiritu and followed by
a Recap from Mrs. Ma. Rachel A. Villaseñor.
The first speaker Ms. Rose Ann G. Peralta started her topic by sharing the saying from (
Barbousas, 2020 ) “ A teacher needs to be able to formulate, construct, arrange, modify, and
make sense of information so that it can be understood as knowledge “ .
According to Ms. Peralta, a 21st century teacher need to accept the importance and necessity
of shared learning inside the classrooms and support collaborative teaching. She reiterates that a
21st century teacher should possess a healthy mind and body, has a solid moral and spiritual
grounding, has essential knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and self-actualization ,
engages in critical thinking and creative problem solving, contributes to the development of a
progressive , just and humane society, is proud to be a Filipino and appreciates the beauty around
him/her and cares for the environment for a sustainable future.
The second speaker , Mrs. Crizel G. Salvador made an introduction about a 21 st Century
Teacher . She specified the characteristics of a 21st century teacher, according to her a century
teacher is learner-centered, guide of learner-producers, techie and willing to be one, global, open
to learning, connect, flexible and innovators.
From her discussion, we learned that a 21st century teacher can inspire and instill a love of
learning and take in account the needs of her leaners to prepare them on different challenges in
the future.
Mrs. Salvador discussed the different teaching strategies under the new normal ; Blended
learning, distance learning, individualized learning and other approaches like open textbooks,
capability approach and offline learning approaches. From her discussion we learned that
teachers under the new normal are expected to be flexible, creative innovative, empowered, and
reflective . That means they must have the ability to differentiate learning to equipped learners
on different skills and knowledge needed for the fast changing educational system.
