OPERATION ‘TerPower Air Circuit Breakers are available in two types; manual charging or motor charging. Manual Charging ‘Charging the closing springs and close-open control of the breaker are done manually. The breaker can be closed only when the closing springs are charged. ‘Spring Charging Operation, (Refer to Figure 1) as follows: @) Pump the charging handle (6) to manually charge the closing springs. The maximum angular stroke of the charging handle is approximately 105 degrees. USAT Nes _ b) When the closing springs are fully charged, a metallic "click" will be heard and no further pumping of the charging handle will be possible. When the charging handle is pumped with its maximum stroke (Approx. 105 degrees), four pumping cycles should complete the charging. Check that the spring indicator (24) shows "CHARGED". 1 23 1. (Refer to para 2.2) b) The position stopper release lever (9) is in the “up position". ©) The shutter of the Draw-Qut handle insertion hole (7) is completely closed. @) The open position padlock lever (5) is not, “pulled out". ©) The specified voltage is applied to the undervoltage trip device (if fitted). 1) The function of the undervoltage trip device is locked (Refer to Figure 22). The front cover cannot be fitted when the UVT is locked. | When checks (a-e) have been satisfactorily completed, carry out the following :- ‘Open the Manual operation button cover, (if fitted) and press the PUSH-TO-CLOSE button (4). The breaker will now close. The Open-Closed indicator (2) shows ‘I* (Closed), land the spring charged indicator (1) shows “DISCHARGED". Even when checks (b-e) are not satisfied, the charged closing springs are released by pressing the PUSH-TO-CLOSE button (4). The breaker will not be in the closed position. Therefore, repeat the closing operation according to checks (b-e). Opening Operation Open the manual operation button cover (if fitted) and press the PUSH-TO-OPEN button (6) This trips open the breaker, and the Open-Closed indicator (2) shows "O" (Open). Motor Charging ‘A motor operated mechanism automatically charges the closing springs. Connections for remote electrical open-close control of the breaker are also fitted (Refer to Figure 5). A Shunt trip or undervottage trip device must be fitted to provide remote opening facility. (The latch release coil for remote closing is included with the motor mechanism.) | Manual operation is also possible, for which the same procedures (Refer to para 2.1) apply. Spring Charging Operation ‘Supply the specified control power voltage to the charging motor circuit. As soon as the ACB closes, the closing springs discharge simultaneously. The charging motor will again re-charge the closing springs in readiness for the next closing operation. The charging motor is automatically stopped when the closing springs are fully charged, and the spring charged indicator (24) (Refer to Figure 1) shows "CHARGED". The charging time varies depending on the rated control voltage and the type of breaker (Normal range from 2.4 to 10 seconds). The permissible control voltage range for the charging motor is 85 to 110% of the rated voltage when AG rated, or 75 to 110% when DC rated. It is strongly recommended that the control power be supplied at the rated voltage, Closing Operation (Refer to Figure 3) Before closing the breaker, check the following: ‘@) The closing springs are charged (Refer to para 2.2). b) The position stopper release lever (9) is in the "up position". ©) The shutter of the Draw-Out handle insertion hole (7) is completely closed. d) The open position padlock lever (5) (if fitted) is not pulled out. e) The specified voltage is applied to the undervoltage trip voltage trip device which is locked (Refer to figure 22). ‘When checks (a-e) have been satisfactorily completed, press the remote CLOSE button (Refer to Figure 5) (PB "CLOSE"). This energizes the latch release coil (LRC), which, in turn, releases the charged closing springs and the breaker immediately closes. The spring charged indicator now shows "DISCHARGED". With the closing springs discharged, the charging motor is immediately re-energised to charge thie closing springs in readiness for the next closing operation. Even when checks (b-e) are not satisfied, the charging closing springs are released by pressing the PUSH-TO-CLOSE button (4), the breaker will not be in the closed position. Therefore, tepeat the closing operation accord 1g to checks (b-e).. Opening Operation A shunt trip device (SHT) or undervoitage trip device (UVT) is used for remote electrical opening operation. Press the remote OPEN button (Refer to Figure 5). This trips the breaker via the SHT or UVT. When close-open operations are repeated with the charging motor ON, limit the number of ‘successive close-open cycles to 15 times. If the close-open cycle is repeated more than 15 times, allow a cooling period of at least 20 minutes between the 15th cycle and 16th cycle. Slow Closing Operation (This is only achieved when using slow-close jigs which are optional, (2 Jigs/Set). ‘Avoid slow closing operation for purposes other than inspection and maintenance of the breaker. Remove the arc chutes, check that the 3 poles of the arcing contact touch simultaneously or the main contact touches after the arcing contact has touched. Slow Closing Procedure, as follows: = a) Remove the breaker body (8) (Refer to Figure 1) from the Draw-Out cradle (9). (Toremove : the breaker body, refer to para 3.8) Place the breaker body on a workbench, in such a position that its underside is readily visible and accessible, turning it sideways or backwards.
