Termizi Abdusalam Reflection

The integration of RE 113 on October 22nd was a truly transformative experience, as we traveled
to Asinan, Buayan, a secluded area near the sea and belonging to the far-flung areas of General
Santos City. The community we encountered was diverse, with people practicing different
religions such as Roman Catholicism, and Islam.

The journey to Asinan revealed the challenging circumstances faced by the community,
including security risks due to their proximity to the sea and far from the city. As we navigated
through the area, it became evident that environmental sanitation was a pressing concern.
Trash was scattered everywhere, and stagnant waters were visible, posing health hazards to the
residents. However, amidst these challenges, I met families who were born in Asinan and chose
to stay, showcasing their resilience and unwavering commitment to their community.

The purpose of integrating Religious Education in Asinan was to assist the community in
improving their worship environment, particularly their GKK chapel. Through interviews and
interactions, I discovered the active involvement of the community not only in their respective
puroks but also in their GKK activities.

Furthermore, adults had groups like Couples for Christ and Singles for Christ, fostering spiritual
growth and community support. The experience in Asinan served as an eye-opener, revealing
the strength of faith and resilience within the community despite their challenging conditions. It
highlighted the power of religious practices and gatherings to instill hope, unity, and a sense of
purpose in the lives of individuals.

Witnessing the community's dedication and enthusiasm towards their faith left me feeling
grateful and humbled. The integration in Asinan was not just an educational initiative; it was an
opportunity to uplift the community, both spiritually and socially. By focusing on improving the
worship environment and providing resources for religious activities, we hoped to empower the
community and support their journey towards a better future.

In conclusion, the integration of Religious Education in Asinan, Buayan, on October 22 nd was a

profound experience. It revealed the diversity of religious practices in the community and shed
light on the challenges they face in their daily lives. However, it also showcased the remarkable
resilience and unwavering faith of the residents. This integration reminded us of the
transformative power of religious education and its potential to bring about positive change,
not only in individuals but also in the communities they belong to.
