thin stick to drop into the pond. Plop! Quin got a net. She thrust 43
the net off the dock. She felt a tug. “Did you catch a crab?” 57
said Max. “Not yet,” said Quin. The net did not have a crab. It 71
had a shrimp and six red fish. “I got a big shrimp!” said Quin. 85
Max went to help his pal tug the net up. Beth went to the shed. 100
She got a cup. “You can put your shrimp in the cup,” she said. 114
Max had to pluck the wet shrimp from the net and drop it into 128
the cup. “Got it!” he said. Quin got the rest of the fish. “I got a 144
bunch of fish,” she said, “I will let the rest of the fish swim back 159
into the pond.” Max bent to scratch his leg. “I think I got a 173

much fun! Mom said to Dad, “I do not see Gus the cat.” Dad 44
had to check in the shed. Gus was not in the shed. Gus was 58
not on the step. Gus was not in the grass. Crash! There was a 73
big yelp from the back. Gus the black cat sat on a rug in the 87
back with a cup of milk which fell from the shelf. The cup had 101
split. Milk was on the rug and the quilt on the bed was wet. 115
“Gus!” said Mom, “did you drench the rug with milk?” Gus ran 127
and hid by the desk. Dad got a dish cloth to scrub the splotch 141
of milk on the bed. Mom got a wet rag to mop up the rug. 156
Mom and Dad had to grin. Gus was not a bad cat. He was just 171
