« IMPACT OF RESEARCH ON HUMAN LIFE »

Definition :
Research is a process of systematic inquiry that entails collection of data;
documentation of critical information; and analysis and interpretation of that data/information, in
accordance with suitable methodologies set by specific professional fields and academic
disciplines.

ADVANTAGES OF RESEARCH.

During a research study your condition is usually monitored more closely so any changes
can be detected earlier. You may also have access to expert medical care that you otherwise
would not.

Staff will keep you updated on your progress and how the study is doing. This allows you to
learn about your condition, and gives you more access to professionals and advice.

Research improves services and treatments not just for you but also for future generations. It
helps develop new tests for diagnosis, treatments and processes that could eventually help your
children, or even your grandchildren.

You may gain access to treatments that are not yet readily available to the general public.
Taking part in research can give you a more positive outlook on any health issues.

Some evidence has suggested that people who take part in research have better health
outcomes no matter what treatment they receive. This is known as the ‘trial effect’. Even if the
research you take part in is unsuccessful, many people feel they receive better care while the
trial is running.

treatments and therapies, which have improved the health and quality of life for millions
of people.

3. Economic Development: Research has also led to the creation of new products and
services, which can stimulate economic growth and development.

4. Better Decision Making: Research can help us make better decisions by providing us with
more accurate and reliable information about various topics.

5. Innovation: Research can spur innovation, leading to the creation of new technologies
and processes that can improve the way we live and work.

DISADVANTAGES.

While research can provide valuable insights and contribute to knowledge, it also has its
disadvantages. Some common disadvantages of research include:

1. Time and cost: Research can be time-consuming and expensive. Depending on the
scope of the research project, it may take months or even years to complete. Additionally,
research often requires funding, which may be limited or difficult to obtain.

2. Bias: Researchers may have their own biases, beliefs, or perspectives that could
influence the results of the study. For example, a researcher who is funded by a
particular company may be more likely to produce results that benefit that company.

3. Limited sample size: Research often involves studying a specific population or sample.
This may limit the generalizability of the findings to other populations or groups.

4. Ethics: Research involving human or animal subjects must follow strict ethical guidelines
to ensure the safety and well-being of participants. Failure to adhere to these guidelines
can result in harm to participants and damage to the researcher’s reputation.

5. Validity and reliability: Research must be designed and conducted in a way that ensures
the validity and reliability of the findings. Poor research design or data collection methods
can lead to inaccurate or unreliable results.

6. Interpretation of results: Even if a study is well-designed and conducted, the results can
be difficult to interpret. Researchers may disagree on the meaning or significance of the
findings, and the results may be open to different interpretations.

7. While research can provide important insights and contribute to knowledge, it is important
to be aware of these potential disadvantages and limitations.
