II. Rationale and Brief Description of the Activity

A. Rationale

In adherence to the annual celebration of National Reading Month, the


language teachers of Andres Bonifacio National High School and the elected
officers of the Reading Club prepared entertaining and stimulating activities
for the month-long celebration of the reading month. The goals of the
activities are specifically aimed to encourage reading for all ages and
promote reading as a key feature for learning, social, and professional
development. Thus, the language teachers of ABNHS will take charge of
enhancing and catalyzing this key skill by spearheading stimulating
activities on the school grounds of ABNHS.

B. Description of the Activities

1. Spelling Bee Grade 7 and The grade 7 and grade 8 students will

improve their vocabulary.

interpretation. The goal of this activity,
according to Brown, 2005, is to provide

a strong foundation in many different


types of literacy, including information
literacy, visual literacy, technological
literacy, and media literacy.
3. Read-a-thon Grade 7 and The grade 7 and grade 8 students will
Grade 8 read as many books as they can during
an allotted period of time. The goal of
this activity is to motivate the students
to read for fun, enjoy reading more,
overcome reading obstacles, and find
more time to read.
4. Declamation Grade 9 and The grade 9 and grade 10 students will
Grade 10 deliver a speech in public and perform
an excerpt of that speech to an
audience. The purpose of this is to
inculcate the skill of public speaking
and the ability to address the audience
with confidence and enthusiasm.
5. Speech Choir Grades 9, 10, The grade 9, grade 10, and grade 11
and 11 students will recite a verse in unison
with elements of choreography. The goal
of this activity is to enhance the
speaking skills of the students.
6. Jazz Chant Grade 9 and The goal of this activity is to improve the
Grade 10 students’ listening and speaking skills
by practicing stress and rhythm.
7. Cosplay Selected The selected grade 9, grade 10, grade
grades 9, 10, 11, and grade 12 students will dress in
11, and 12 costumes and make-up representing
characters from an anime and Filipino
fictional heroes. The goal of this activity
is to immerse oneself in the world of a
beloved character from a fictional
universe by creating a detailed and
authentic costume and portrayal.

III. Objectives

This National Reading Month Celebration has the following objectives:

1. Strengthen the value of reading


2. Encourage the students to show their hidden talents
3. Develop students’ love for reading
4. Boost the students’ confidence in using the language
5. Enhance the students’ creativity
6. Support learning through visualization
7. Develop unity and cooperation within the group.

Criteria Description Points


Costume Accuracy Costume accuracy will be based on the 35%
resemblance to the original character in terms of
appearance.
Craftsmanship Craftsmanship will be based on quality of build, 20%
neatness, aesthetics, technique, complexity, and
inventiveness.
Characterization Characterization will be based on the accuracy of 20%
character portrayal onstage.
Fluidity on the Fluidity on the runway will be based on how the 20%
Runway costume and the wearer move and the body
language the costume helps portray to the
audience during the catwalk.
Audience Impact Audience impact will be based on the stage 5%
presence and connection with the audience.
