Although Crazy Egg is known specifically for heat map, it’s more than that.

It’s an analytics, a CRO,

an SEO, and a PPC tool all rolled into one. Digital marketers use Crazy Egg at Simplilearn to help
make sense of user conversion and engagement behavior. The ability to visualize data makes
Crazy Egg a powerful tool that can give site owners a context for data from the point of view of
customers.

Implementing Crazy Egg

Simplilearn’s customers are provided with an extended 60-day trial version (Use this Link).

Once your account is fully paid, you can implement a tracking code. The 1st step in using Crazy
Egg is to create a snapshot, one snapshot is just one version of your page (it’s important to
understand that to track the desktop, mobile, and tablet versions of your page, you need to
develop 3 snapshots). Once you have created a snapshot, Crazy Egg will give you a tracking code,
which needs to implemented at the footer of your site.

Crazy Egg Functions

Crazy Egg provides a lot of different reports and maps such as Heat map, Scroll map, Confetti
report, and Overlay report

Heat map

A Heat map is generated based on how the users interact with a page. It gives a visual representation of
click density on the page being tested.

Here is an example of a Heat map:

1
The glowing sections are the ones with high click density (more number of clicks). Each click contains a
plethora of information that can be found using the Confetti map.

Scroll map

The Scroll map is a visualization of the amount of time that visitors spend viewing certain sections of
your page. It can help you decide which sections to prioritize on the page.

Overlay

The Overlay report is a collection of little, colored markers, attached to every section that was clicked.
You can open the marker to retrieve more information about that particular section. As such, it doesn’t
give any additional information that cannot be derived from other maps.

2
Confetti

The Confetti report is similar to Heat maps, it’s a visual representation of the most popular sections of
the site based on the number of clicks but each dot/colored marker here represents more information
than a Heat map. You can filter views based on the number of parameters such as browser, country,
used devices, referrals, and so on. Dots belonging to the same category have the same color.

Using this map, you can find out how users of different demographics interact with the page, or which
section of a page has the highest engagement from a particular group of people.

Here is an example of a Confetti report.
