Abstract: This document provides the guidelines for the DRFU configuration and
connection principle of the RF cables for the BTS3900 and BTS3900A in multiple
application scenarios to simplify the complexity for the planning of the DRFU slot
and RF cable connection. This document provides the basic configuration
principles based on the single-band and dual-band networking modes
respectively. For better maintenance and capacity expansion, the position of the
DRFU and the connection of the CPRI port should be relatively fixed. As the
propaganda material, this guide is intended to guide the customers for using the
principles. According to this guide, Huawei develops the graphic configuration
tool, which can be obtained from http://support.huawei.com. This tool can help to
export the configuration and cable connection graphs which are used by the
front-line departments for the project delivery in a short time.
The connection of the CPRI ports for the single cabinet adopts the star mode.
The number of the CPRI ports and the number of the DRFU slots on the BBU
have a one-to-one mapping relationship. If the slot of the DRFU is idle, the CPRI
port on the BBU is also idle.
In double-cabinet scenario, every two slots of each cabinet share one CPRI port.
The cabinets adopt the level one cascaded mode. Cabinet 1 uses the CPRI ports
0, 2, and 4. Cabinet 2 uses the CPRI ports 1, 3, and 5, as shown in Figure 2.
1.3.3 Basic Configuration Principles for the CPRI Port of Three Cabinets
The allocation principles for the CPRI port in the scenario of three cabinets are
as follows: The CPRI0 and CPRI1 are used for the first cabinet, the CPRI2 and
CPRI3 are used for the second cabinet, and the CPRI4 and CPRI5 are used for
the third cabinet. The CPRI ports are connected to the TRX boards in slots 0 and
3 of the corresponding cabinets. The other TRX modules are cascaded in
sequence, as shown in Figure 4.
The slots and sectors are arranged from left to right in sequence, seen from the
front. Figure 6 shows the slot allocation.
Figure 6 Slot and sector allocation in the single cabinet of a single band
If the number of modules for each cell is no greater than 2, arrange the modules
of the corresponding cells according to the sector configuration shown in Figure
1. Figure 7 and Figure 8 show the examples.
Figure 7 S2/2/2
Figure 8 S3/2/3
If the number of modules configured for a cell is greater than 2, arrange the
modules of the corresponding cells according to the sector configuration shown
in Figure 1. This cell uses the neighboring slots of the adjacent sectors,
preferably those located to the right, seen from the front. The modules of the
other cells are moved to the right in sequence. In this case, if no slot is available
for the module that is originally located on the rightmost side, use the empty slots
of the other sectors on the left. Figure 9, Figure 10, and Figure 11 show the
examples.
Figure 9 S2/6/2
Figure 10 S2/6/4
Figure 11 S2/8/2
If there are two or more cells with odd numbers of TRXs, add a TRX for the first
such cell, and decrease one TRX for the second such cell. Then, a new type of
site is set up. Arrange the cells according to the new configuration. (The cell
having only one TRX cannot use this principle. The cells with odd numbers of
TRXs only refer to the cells that have 3, 5, 7, or 9 TRXs.)For example, the
modules for S2/5/3 are placed in the form of S2/6/2.This principle is also
applicable to the odd-even-odd site. For example, the modules for S3/2/5 are
arranged in the form of S4/2/4. Figure 12 and Figure 13 show the examples.
Figure 12 S2/5/3
Figure 13 S3/2/5
For the odd-even-odd site, the RF interconnection cables are long. The RF
interconnection cables are routed under the DRFU modules to avoid interfering
the maintenance of the modules in the middle. For details, see Figure 14 S3/2/5.
Figure 14 S3/2/5
If the cabinet houses six modules, the modules are arranged according to the
sequence of the cells from the left to right.
If the BTS is configured as one cell and O type, the DRFU modules are arranged
form left to right in sequence.
If the BTS is configured as a two-cell type and the mapping from the two-cell
configuration to the three-cell configuration is available, arrange the modules
according to the slot allocation principle of three cells. For example: In S0/2/2
configuration, DRFU modules are positioned in slots 2 and 4; in S202
configuration, DRFU modules are positioned in slots 0 and 4, in S220
configuration, DRFU modules are positioned in slots 0 and 2, in S303
configuration, DRFU modules are positioned in slots 0, 1, 4, and 5.If the mapping
from the two-cell configuration to the three-cell configuration is available, cell 1
and cell 2 are regarded as the default cells. Arrange the modules according to
the slot allocation principle of three cells. For example, in S22 configuration, the
DRFU modules are positioned in slots 0 and 2 by default.
Figure 15 S0/2/2
If an odd number of TRXs are configured for a cell and one cell needs to use the
TRXs of other cells, the modules of the cells on the left are used preferentially.
For example, in the S333, cell 1 and cell 2 use the TRXs of each other. In the
S323, cell 1 and cell 3 use the TRXs of each other.
Figure 16 S3/3/3
Figure 17 S3/2/3
Arrange the modules from left to right according to the cell sequence. No slot is
left empty in the middle.
If two cells with odd numbers of TRXs share one module (S1 cannot be regarded
as a cell with odd numbers of TRXs), decrease one TRX for the first cell with odd
numbers of TRXs, and add one TRX for the second cell with odd numbers of
TRXs. Then, a new type of site is set up. Arrange the slots according to the new
configuration.

Figure 19 S3/3/2/2
Figure 20 S5/2/2/2
If the number of TRXs configured for the BTS is greater than 12 but less than 24,
two RF cabinets are required. Use the principle of configuring two TRXs in one
sector. The RF cabinets do not use the TRXs of each other.
Figure 21 shows the allocation principle of the slots and sectors when the double
cabinets of a single band are in stacked mode.
Figure 21 Slot and sector allocation in the stacked double cabinets of a single
band
Figure 22 shows the allocation principle of the slots and sectors when the double
cabinets of a single band are in side by side mode.
Slot allocation principle: The DRFU modules in cabinet 1 are placed according to
the S444 configuration. The slot allocation of cabinet 2 is based on the
configuration of the TRX number for the BTS minus the configuration of the
S444. The slot allocation principle of cabinet 2 that described in section 2.1.2
For example: In S668 configuration, the DRFU modules in cabinet 1 are placed
according to S444, and the modules in cabinet 2 are placed according to S668-
S444 = S224. In S2/4/10 configuration, the DRFU modules in cabinet 1 are
placed according to S444, and the modules in cabinet 2 are placed according to
S2/4/10 - S4/4/4 = S0/0/6. Figure 23. Figure 24, and Figure 25 show the
examples.

2.2.2 More Than Three Cells but Less Than Six Cells in Double Cabinets
of a Single Band
When the number of cells is more than 3 but does not exceed 6, six sectors are
allocated according to the S4/4/4/4/4/4, as shown in Figure 26.
Figure 26 Sector allocation for double cabinets of a single band having more
than three cells
Arrange the module of each cell in the corresponding sector. If there are more
than two modules in a sector, the sector uses the slot of the next sector. The
modules of the other cells are arranged in sequence to the right. For TRX and
slot allocation, the following principles apply. If the condition is beyond the
following principles, contact the writer of this document for solution.
The internal slots of the cabinet are used preferentially. Two slots are used
as a unit. If the modules of the next sector can all be arranged in the
cabinet, arrange all the modules in the cabinet preferentially. If the slots in
this cabinet are not enough, the empty slots in the other cabinet can be
used. If the left slots in cabinet 2 need to be used by cells configured in
cabinet 1, the modules in cabinet 2 are moved to the right accordingly. If the
right slots in cabinet 1 need to be used by cells configured in cabinet 2, the
modules in cabinet 2 are moved to left accordingly. The other principles of
using the slots of other sectors are the same as those described in section
2.1 .
Figure 27 S6/6/2/2
Figure 28 S6/4/2/2
It is not recommended that the DRFU modules for one cell be located in
different cabinets. If the modules of a cell cannot all be arranged in the
cabinet, arrange all the modules of the cell to the next cabinet. If the number
of slots in the next cabinet is not enough for the modules of the cell, arrange
the modules for the cell according to the following principles: The modules
for a S4 cell must be placed in one cabinet. The S6 can only be divided into
S2+S4 or S4 +S2 in two cabinets. The S8 can only be can only be divided
into S4 + S4 in two cabinets. If the total number of slots in two cabinets is
inadequate unless S4 is divided or S8 is divided into S2+S6, deliver one
more cabinet. These principles also apply in the subsequent sections.
When there are more than six cells of the double cabinets of a single band, no
sectors are divided. The modules of all the cells are arranged in sequence. The
principles of locating one cell in different cabinets are consistent with the
principles mentioned above. The modules for a S4 cell must be placed in one
cabinet. The S6 can only be divided into S2+S4 or S4 +S2 in two cabinets. The
S8 can only be can only be divided into S4 + S4 in two cabinets. If the total
number of slots in two cabinets is inadequate unless S4 is divided or S8 is
divided into S2+S6, deliver one more cabinet.)
The number of TRXs in each cell should not exceed 12. Therefore, the number
of cells in the three cabinets of a single band must be equal to or more than
three. If there are three cells, each cell occupies one cabinet.
The modules of each cell are arranged from cabinet 1 to cabinet 3 one after
another according to the sequence of the cells.
configuration principles of DRFU modules for the GSM850, PCS1900, and the
other dual-band BTSs are similar to this principle.
The cabinet is divided into left area and right area. Allocate three slots for each
frequency band. The slots are allocated in S222_222.For example, the GSM900
is positioned in slot 0, slot 1, and slot 2. The DCS1800 is positioned in slot 3, slot
4, and slot 5.
Figure 30 S2/2/2-2/2/2
Figure 31 S2/0/2-2/2/0
If the number of TRXs on one frequency band for a cell is more than 2, the slots
of each sector can be used mutually. The slots of each sector can also be used
across the frequency band. The principles of using the slots of other sectors are
as follows: If the slots are not enough when one frequency band or one cell are
arranged according to the allocated sectors, this cell uses the neighboring slots
of the adjacent sectors, preferably those located to the right, seen from the front.
The modules of the other cells are moved to the right in sequence. (For example,
the S2/4/0-2/2/2).When the slots of the frequency band are not enough, the slot
of the other sectors can be used across the frequency band.(For example, in
S2/4/2-2/2/0 configuration , the GSM900 occupies the slots of the DCS1800 from
the right in sequence. In S0/2/2-2/4/2, when the slots of the other sectors are
used across the frequency band, the DCS1800 occupies the slots of the
GSM900 from left in sequence.
If there is already one frequency band, you should adjust the slots of the
modules of the existing frequency band when another frequency band needs to
be added. The DRFUs of different frequency bands are arranged in different
areas according to the principles above.
3.1.2 Single Cabinet of Double Bands (More Than Three Cells in at Least
One Frequency Band)
Each cell occupies at least one DRFU module. Therefore, the scenario where
more than three cells in both of the frequency bands or more than six cells in a
frequency band does not exist in a single cabinet of double bands.
The slots are allocated according to the S222_222. If there are more than three
slots in a frequency band, the slots of the neighboring frequency band are used.
The modules of the neighboring frequency band are moved in sequence. The
lower frequency band is on the left, and the higher frequency band is on the
right.
Figure 33 S2-2/2/2/2
If there are more than three slots in the DCS1800, the empty slots should be
arranged between the two frequency bands. If there are more than three slots in
the GSM900, the empty slots should be arranged at the end.
Figure 34 S2/2/2/2-2
If the modules of each frequency band are within one cabinet, each frequency
band exclusively occupies one cabinet. The principles of placing the modules in
the cabinet are the same as those described in section 2.1.1 More Than Three
Cells in Single Cabinet of a Single Band.
If a cabinet cannot house all the GSM900 DRFUs, the extra modules use the
start slots of the DCS1800 cabinet. The second cabinet is arranged according to
the principles in section 3.1 .
If there are more than one cabinet in DCS1800, the sector of the 1800 M is
arranged from the empty slot of the GSM900 cabinet. Cabinet 1 is arranged
according to the principles in section 3.1 . Cabinet 2 is arranged in sequence.
It is not recommended that the DRFU modules for one cell be located in different
cabinets. If the modules of a cell cannot all be arranged in the cabinet, arrange
all the modules of the cell to the next cabinet. If the number of slots in the next
cabinet is not enough for the modules of the cell, arrange the modules for the cell
according to the following principles: The modules for a S4 cell must be placed in
one cabinet. The S6 can only be divided into S2+S4 or S4 +S2 in two cabinets.
The S8 can only be can only be divided into S4 + S4 in two cabinets. If the total
number of slots in two cabinets is inadequate unless S4 is divided or S8 is
divided into S2+S6, deliver one more cabinet.
If the cell number for one frequency band is more than three but less than six in
the double cabinets of double bands, cabinet 1 is used for GSM900 and cabinet
2 is used for DCS1800. The modules in each cabinet is arranged according to
the principles in section 2.1 If there are more than one cabinet in GSM900 , the
start slot of the DCS1800 cabinet is used. Cabinet 2 is arranged according to the
principles in section 3.1 . Cabinet 1 is arranged in sequence. If there are more
than one cabinet of DCS1800, the sectors of the DCS1800 are arranged from
the empty slots of the GSM900 cabinet. Cabinet 1 is arranged according to the
principles in section 3.1 . Cabinet 2 is arranged in sequence.
Figure 35 More than three but no more than six cells in one frequency band of
the double cabinets of double bands
3.2.3 Double Cabinets of Double Bands (More Than Six Cells in One
Frequency Band)
For the double cabinets of double bands, if there are more than six cells in one
frequency band, all the sectors are arranged in sequence.
Divide the three cabinets into six areas according to the S6/6/6-6/6/6. The six
areas corresponds to GSM900 and DCS1800 respectively. The modules in each
cell are arranged in sequence and use the slots of other sectors. The principle of
using the slots of other sector is the same as above. If there are more than three
modules in one sector, the slots of the existing frequency band are used
preferentially. If the slots of the frequency band are not enough, the slots of
another frequency band are used. If the principles cannot cover the practical
applications, contact the writer of this document for solution.

3.3.2 Three Cabinets of Double Bands (More than Three Cells in One
Frequency Band)
Divide the three cabinets into nine sectors according to the S444444444.
Arrange the 900 M cells in sequence, and then arrange the 1800 M cells in
sequence.
If there are more than two modules in one cell, the neighboring sectors of two
slots are used. The subsequent cells are arranged according to the sector
sequence.
