Above are mentioned the most typical deployments of a 7356 REM with DC/DC Convertor.
A special case is the third option, where the original chassis has been extended so it can fit a
extra splitter board, allowing the deployment of 2 splitter boards and two corresponding LT
boards
Remark all examples are based on 48p cards only, the NALT-E/F is not mentioned but supported
starting R3.7
The Remote Expansion Module Flexible Density DC Controller Board has three
functions:
• PSU (Power Supply Unit) DCÆ DC converter
o DC power dual feed (-48 V / -60 V) with two branches (RETA/BATA and RETB/BATB)
• Controller
• External Interfaces
14
PSU
A DC input voltage enters the unit at the controller board, where the necessary filtering,
fuses, switches and surge protection is implemented. The -48V is distributed to the other
slot positions via the backplane. On the controller board, the -48V input voltage is
converted to a 12VDC bus voltage for powering the fan unit and a 3V3 bus voltage used to
supply the On-Board Point-Of-Load (POL) converter. The power consumption of the SB-REM
is maximally 300 W (peak) and 200 W (average) when powered from the NRCD-A. Power is
applied to both BAT-A and BAT-B inputs, to minimize the voltage drop on the boards. It
uses the one with the highest absolute voltage. It switches automatically to the other
supply branch if a voltage drop or failure of the initial supply branch occurs.
Controller
The controller functions include:
Interconnections between the controller board and the other slot positions via the
backplane
Dying gasp functionality
A link with the host via the Man Machine Interface (MMI) RS-232
Control signals for active/standby functionality and 8KHz reference clock generation
Control of the fan unit, for this purpose 12V fan power, PWM signals for fan speed control
and tacho feedback signals are implemented. A fan present and fan ID signal is received
Scanning of five external alarm inputs and driving of two external alarm outputs
Local alarm scanning (fan-alarm, DC-input alarms, temperature alarms and SFP alarms
The Remote Expansion Module Flexible Density AC Controller Board has three
functions:
• Controller
• External Interfaces
15
External Interfaces
Next to the power input the controller board has the following external features:
Alarm I/O interface
On/Off Switch
Alarm Cut-Off (ACO) switch
LEDs for ACO, Fan alarm, Alarm, System, and Power
Two SFP interfaces
Ethernet Interface
Craft interface

NT card for 7356 REM : transforms 7356 REM into a Remote Unit that can
have its own expansion links
Synchronization:
• Synch-E in: only SFP 1 and 2
• Synch-E out: all SFPs
18
Only the use of ALU-approved SFPs is allowed. See 7356 ISAM FTTB User, Safety and Installation
document.
Since the NRNT card has a capacity of 2.5Gpbs per LT the High Cap cards (e.g. NVLT-G) can be
used in this deployment scenario.
From a point of view of software, the same ISAM software module is used as for the 7302 and
7330.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7357 ISAM FTTB SEM is a compact, sealed full-service IP access node for
remote deployments, offering 48 VDSL2 ports with 8/12/17 profiles and ADSL/ADSL2+
compatibility. It is very cost-effective and fast to deploy because it is a self-contained unit -
ideal as an FTTN complement or to cover small pockets of subscribers.
Sealed primary enclosure:
Protection against solid objects: protected against dust limited ingress (no harmful
deposit).
Protection against liquids: protected against strong jets of water.
Fast rollout: Remote power, passive cooling – no cabinets required (no building permits, …)
AC power is possible if available
Passively cooled: the enclosure is used as heat sink, makes that the 7357 can withstand heat up
to +45 degrees Celsius
Outdoor / Residential Areas: can service up to 48 users

31
The Alcatel-Lucent 7354 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB)
Remote Unit (RU) is a compact full-service IP access node for MDU and cabinet deployments,
designed to deliver up to 100Mbps over VDSL2. Its non-blocking architecture and
IGMPv3support, including IGMP snooping and IGMP Immediate Leave, ensure scalable delivery
of high-quality IPTV services.
The 7354 ISAM FTTB RU is optimized for MDU deployments with a 19in. form factor, front
panel cable access, and AC/DC powering, and is temperature hardened for outdoor
deployments. Its 24 VDSL2 ports support 30a, 17a, and 12a/b profiles and are backwards
compatible with ADSL/2+.
Power
100-240 VAC
Power
–36 to –72 VDC
32
The 7354 ISAM is a pizza box equipment in which all the items are built-in units (fan unit, Line
Termination (LT), splitter and PSU/control board).
The 7354 ISAM is offered in different variants depending on the PSU unit type and the POTS/ISDN
service options.
The AC version requires 100-240 VAC single-feed input from the mains. The DC version supports -
36 to –72 VDC single-feed or dual-feed input (normal provided by -48 or -60 VDC sources).
When using dual-feed DC input, the unit supports power load sharing, and power backup in
case one of the power sources fails.
