Instructions for the Mock/ Formative Assessment – I (FA-I)
(November– 2023)
Date: 16.11.2023

A Mock Assessment will be available for students to familiarise themselves with the examination
platform and the MCQ pattern on 18 November 2023. The assessment will be for a duration of 10
minutes. Please note that this is only for practice purposes and the questions in the main
assessment will pertain to the specific subject matter. (Please refer to the MOCK Timetable of page-
11 of this document).

Instructions No. 1

General Instructions:

1. The FA-I will be held for each course of the enrolled programme.

2. FA-I will be scored out of 20 marks and will have 40 Multiple Choice Questions. The time for

each course/ paper’s FA-I will be 30 minutes.

3. All students will be remotely proctored/invigilated during the FA-I. Students must have

access to a computer or a laptop with an audio and video feature. Please see the minimum

system requirements below (in Instructions No. 2).

4. For the duration of the assessment, the students are required to be in a safe and secure place

where there should be no disturbance or background noise.

5. Students are expected to be alone while attempting the assessment. Observance of multiple

people in the webcam or voices can lead to the termination of the assessment.

6. Headphones/Earphones are not allowed.

7. Virtual background should not be enabled in Zoom.

8. Any technical challenges faced by the student end will solely be the responsibility of the

respective candidate, the proctor shall make a decision whether it is a case of malpractice or

not.

9. The camera should be positioned correctly so that the student is clearly visible to the proctor.

Minimum System Requirements:

2. Machine: A laptop or a desktop. No mobiles or tablets can be used to take the exam.

3. Video/Audio: Webcam/Built in Camera and a good quality mic is required. Recommended

webcam configuration: a resolution of 640x480 @ 10ps.

4. Operating system: Windows 7, 8 or 10, Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks or higher.

5. RAM & Processor: 4 GB+ RAM, Core 2 Duo, 2.2 Ghz or equivalent/higher.

6. Internet Connection: Stable 10 Mbps+ of upload & download speed through Broadband or 4G

Hotspot. Students are requested to test their internet speed at their location beforehand.

7. Battery backup: 1 hour of battery backup/UPS.

8. Software: Zoom 5.0.

8.1. Zoom Login: Students should have created a Zoom login account with the same email

address that is on record in their learn.nls.ac.in.

8.2. Virtual background should not be enabled in Zoom.

Test Process:

1. Students are required to report by logging into LMS and then on Zoom, at least 10 minutes
before the start time of their assessment.
2. Students are requested to wait in the Zoom waiting room until the proctor admits them.
3. Students will be admitted until 10 minutes after the start of the assessment. Please note that
no student will be admitted after this time.
4. Proctor may ask for a general environmental hygiene check at any point of time during the
assessment.
5. Students will be able to view the question paper in their LMS portal at the start time of the
assessment. Since the assessment is for a short duration, bio/bathroom breaks are not
allowed.
6. If your connection drops, you are allowed to join the Zoom meeting in 2-5 minutes. Please
inform the proctor of the reason for dropping out on a Zoom message.
7. In case of any technical problem/power failure, No extra time will be given to complete the
assessment.
8. All students will be muted from the proctor’s end. However, students can be unmuted at any
point of time in case there is a suspicion. It is mandatory for all students to keep their video
(web camera/camera) on throughout the course of the assessment. You may minimize the
Zoom screen during the assessment but the camera should be on.
9. Students are allowed to use two A4-sized blank or ruled sheets for rough notes. Proctor may
ask to showcase these rough sheets at any point of time during the assessment.
10. Questions must be answered as students find them. No clarifications or explanations may be
sought from the Faculty or Proctors during the course of the assessment.
11. Do not speak during the assessment as it may disturb the other students. It may also be
considered as a malpractice incident, resulting in cancellation of your assessment.
12. Please do not ask the proctor for general queries. You are expected to have read the
instructions in detail before reporting for the assessment.

Navigating the Assessment Platform:


Step 1: Visit https://learn.nls.ac.in and use the login credentials that you have been using to join
classes or view the materials/class recording.

Step 2: The links to join zoom will be made available in the Dashboard/Calendar in a similar way
made available for the classes.

Step-3: Ensure the zoom and camera is turned on for the duration of the assessment. While taking
the assessment you may minimize the zoom window. Ensure that you are not closed the zoom
platform.

Instructions No. 5: Attempting the Mock / Assessment LMS Portal:

Step 1: To start the Assessment/Mock Test, go to the “My programmes” section on the left-hand
side panel.

Step-2: Select “Formative Assessment” you will be redirected to Assessment/Mock Test


selection page. Click on ““FA-1: Mock Test-November 2023”

Step-3: Select Upon clicking the “FA-1: Mock Test-November 2023” button you will be
redirected to the below page. You need to click on Practice Assessment

KINDLY NOTE: DURING YOUR MAIN EXAM YOU NEED TO CHOOSE YOUR RESPECTIVE COURSE:
Ex. Contract Law, Introduction to Law and Legal System etc….

Step-4: Select Practice Assessment and Click on ‘Attempt Quiz’

Step-4: Please read the disclaimer and accept the terms and Click on Start Attempt.

Step-5: You will see the questions related to the Assessment subject. Select the appropriate answer
in the box given below to the question, scroll down for the next question.

Step-6: You will see the time left on the top right of the exam window.

Step-7: After answering all the questions, click on Finish Attempt, which is at the end of the page.

Step-8: You will be redirected to the following page, in case you may want to return to the
question page click on “ Return to Attempt”

Step-9: You will be prompted to confirm by clicking on ‘Submit all and finish’. After this you will
not be able to edit your answer. Hence Check all the details before you leave the exam window.

Please note that you must click on "submit all and finish" at the end of the assessment, otherwise
the system will automatically submit your assessment and close the window. You will not be able to
access the submission link on the LMS Portal after the exam time is over.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to raise a ticket on nls.collpoll.com, All
queries will be addressed through the ticketing platform only. A ticket will be resolved within 3
working days.

Instructions No. 6

List of Malpractices
1. During the assessment, students are not permitted any external assistance. Any effort to
seek assistance or give assistance to others is a ‘major misconduct’ under the NLSIU
Principles of Conduct, 2022
2. Possessing material (written/printed/electronic device, etc.) and/or copying from such
material is prohibited.
3. Candidates should not seek assistance from any other person, in any manner.
4. Misconduct/resisting the lawful orders of the Proctors, creating a disturbance, instigating
other candidates, threatening.
5. Communicating in Codes with other students is not allowed
6. More than one person on a candidate's screen is not allowed.
7. Hearing the candidate talk to someone during the exam or over any audio/video devices may
lead to the termination of the assessment.
8. Navigating from the assessment window is not permitted, if found, it may lead to the
termination of the assessment.
9. Leaving the room without the permission of the proctor is not allowed
10. Switching off the webcam/microphone is not allowed.
11. Any other activity/gesture observed by the proctor during the assessment and deemed
inappropriate will lead to the termination of the assessment.
12. Headphones/Earphones are not allowed.
13. Virtual background should not be enabled in Zoom.
14. The assessment requires the student to be fully visible on the screen at all times. Any student
who fails to comply with this rule will be considered ineligible for the assessment and will
not receive a score. Hence ensure that you place the position of the camera correctly so that
you are seen at all times as shown in the image

Important Note: Please note the following points: You have 10 minutes to finish the mock test. This
is a trial session to help you prepare for the procedure of joining and taking the
assessment. The actual FA-1 (Test) on 25 & 26 November 2023 will start at the
exact time shown in the timetable. There will be no extra login time. You need to
login 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
