Haylee Danis: Personal Statement

While going through my middle school years I saw a lot of friends and fellow students who were
going through very hard lives, and they did not have many people behind them to help.
Witnessing this made me want to make a difference and be a voice for kids who cannot. My
Grandmother has been a huge help with this by telling me her stories and time in school to
become a social worker. My sister, who is also adopted, is my big push to be in this field as I am
slowly watching her find out more about her biological parents, how they weren’t good and she
was lucky to have us. (she technically is my cousin) A lot of foster families have been caught
fostering just for the government checks instead of doing it for the kid and they try to hide it so
that they don’t lose those monthly checks, which can leave kids in the same or worse state than
before. This is something that motivates me to be better and change this and not let the people
who just want the money get these foster kids.
Currently, I attend State College of Florida, pursuing my Associate of Arts degree. I am very
excited to learn more about this field and get to have experiences of how others work in this field
before I go out and do it on my own. Outside of college, I work at a daycare for infants. This job
allows me to learn how to make connections with kids and their families.
In the next five years, I plan on going all the way through to my master’s degree in social work.
After I finish my Associate of Arts degree at State College of Florida, I plan on moving to
Panama City and transferring to Florida State University to finish out.
After Finishing school and graduating I plan on moving out of state and starting my journey of
Social Work where I can make a difference in kid's lives and connect with them. After a few
years of working in my field, I currently want to further my education into my PHD and take
classes throughout my work to stay updated in my field.
