 Bit – The smallest unit of data storage, it holds either
1 0r 0. (Binary digit)
E.g.10111000 – 8bits
1101010111 = 10 bits

 Byte – is usually 8bits.

 e.g.
 1byte = 8bits 0r 10101010
 4 bytes = 4 X8 = 32bits
 56 bits = 56/8 = 7bytes

 1 byte is used to store one character.

8 bits = 1 byte = 1 character
32bits= 4bytes = 4characters

 A Character – letter (A-Z)or number (0 -9), or a
symbol (#,%,@,space)

 E.g.
 Sunshine = 8 characters = 8bytes = 8X8 =64bits
 14 years old = 12 characters =12bytes = 8X12 = 96bits
It’s a rainy day! = 17characters=17bytes = 8X17 =136bits

 Kilobyte (KB)- In the world of computers a
kilobyte is 1024bytes and not 1000.
 (1024 characters or 10 pages of a typical
book)
1KB =1024bytes = 1024 characters = 8192bits
2KB File =2048bytes= 2048 characters =
16384bits about 20pages
