A direct quotation is done by repeating or

Today we will discuss about using direct quotation.

The learners will actively read.

“Can someone read the definition of direct quotation?”

Reporting clause – part of the sentence

“Everybody please read.”
that identifies who is speaking.
Direct quotation is divided into two parts: The reported clause Reported clause – part of the sentence that
and the reporting clause. shows the exact words that were spoken
by the person.

“Everybody please read.” Learners will read.

QUEZONIAN EDUCAIONAL COLLGE, INC.

Example: John said, “I love pizza”.

Reporting clause: John said
Reported clause: “I love pizza”

The learners will answer the sentences.

The teacher will give more example sentences.

The teacher will also ask the learners to give an example.

Direct quotation uses when you want to repeat and use

someone’s words. For example: I request ma’am Harlene to
please tell you to be prepared for the quiz. Therefore, ma’am
Harlene will tell you that Ma’am Jae said, “Please be prepared
for the quiz.”
“Yes ma’am”
Have you understood class? The learner will give an example.
“Who wants to give an example”

Direct quotation is not only used in our daily communication it

is also important on your writing especially on your essays and
research paper.

In using direct quotation, in formal writing always remember

putting the quotation mark in the right place. And don’t forget
the last name of the author and the year of publication.

Example: As Smith (2020) argues, “Climate change is not just

an environmental issue, but also a social and economic one.”
QUEZONIAN EDUCAIONAL COLLGE, INC.
JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

The learners will arrange the words.

The teacher will give a rearranged examples and the learners
will arrange the words to form a proper use of direct quotation.

We use direct quotation in our writing to avoid claiming

someone’s words as our own, which is illegal and called
“Plagiarism”.

“To avoid plagiarism ma’am.”

“Why do you think our writers use direct quotation when
using someone’s words?”

“Exactly! Very Good.”

Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s work or ideas

without giving them a proper credit.

“Yes ma’am”
“Have you understood class?”

“Yes ma’am”
“Are we clear?

C. Abstraction

The teacher will ask questions about the use of direct

quotation.

So, we have discussed everything about direct quotation.

Again, what is direct quotation?
“Ma’am, direct quotation is when you take
another person’s words and place them in
“Very Good!” your own writing.”
What are the two parts of Direct Quotation?
“The reporting clause and the reported
clause.”
“Yes, correct.”

“Why do we use direct quotation in our writing?”

“To give credit to the original source of the
words ma’am, and to avoid plagiarism.”
“Exactly!”

“Why do you think using direct quotation is important?”

“Ma’am we can use it in our writing and to
our daily lives.”
Wow, very good! Thank you for listening.
