6. PROCEDURE

6.1 ASSEMBLEY & ERECTION OF STUB ANGLE

The installation works shall always be carried out in a safe manner, with all site personnel, staff and labor,
fully adopting the project safety procedure.
All parties shall be particularly aware of safety requirements concerning working in assembly and erection of
gantry tower stub angle.

In the erection of stub angle, shall ensure that all lifting operations are carried out in a planned and safe
manner. All lifting equipment shall be in accordance with SA standards. Risk assessment must be
undertaken for all operations where mechanical lifting is carried out. The risk assessment must identify how
lifting is to be carried out safely and must communicate to all those involved in supervising and carrying out
the lifting operation. The crane operator and rigger must be certified crane/hoist operator. Approved MS for
Lifting and heavy equipment installation.

6.2 LOADING & UNLOADING OF MATERIALS

1) All the personnel shall put the certificate sticker of safety induction training on their helmet to enter the
working area. And designated safety officer shall be assigned at the working area.

2) Safety barrier shall be installed around working radius 15M where the loading, unloading activities are
performed.

3) The general contents regarding loading, unloading are as below:

- Rigging personnel and standing operator shall be trained in each lifting signal techniques.

- When it’s unloading and loading materials, workers shall be enforced to keep caution in order to
prevent slips, trips and falls during material handling.

- All obstructions must be removed or identified and informed to all concerned prior to start the loading,
unloading activity.

- Crane to be used should have valid certificate approved and the capacity of the cranes can be changed
up to the site condition.

- In case of crane, hook is aligned with the center of gravity line of the suspended crate. The hook shall
be suspended slowly and stopped when the rope is stretched tightly, lifting shall be started at a signal.

- The flagman will be assigned to unloading work of all activities.

- Rigger will instruct the crane operator to position the crane. Making sure there are no obstructions,
excavations or overhead power lines nearby. Rigger to check the capacity of the crane and also verify
the certificates and SWL of tools to be used such as sling belts, hooks and shackles.

- The flagman must always be visible from the crane/forklift operator. The rigger must be clear and
visible to the crane operator.

- The load shall be stopped at a proper level above the point where it is to be placed and safely lowered
to final position.

- The material controller shall assure that the internals of all items are maintained in a safe condition at
all times.

- The location of activities should be barricaded around the rigging radius and have precaution sign
board at the area.

- The working radius is determined by calculating the distance between the crane's center of
rotation and the location where it will lift the object. To calculate the working radius, we will use
the following formula: Working Radius = Horizontal Distance between Crane Center and Lifting
Point

- Once we have calculated the working radius using this formula, it's essential to ensure a safety
margin. Typically, this safety margin is around 10-20% of the working radius. Let's illustrate this
with an example: Imagine a crane lifting a load 15 meters away from its center. In this case, the
working radius would be 15 meters, and the safety radius would be 15 meters plus 20% of 15
meters (which is 3 meters). Therefore, the safety radius in this scenario would be 18 meters.

- So, to maintain safety, it's crucial to place safety barriers at a distance of 18 meters from the
center of the crane when it's operating with a 15-meter working radius.

- Certainly, when it comes to the treatment of unloaded material for Gantry tower assembly and
erection, there are several important considerations to ensure safety and efficiency. Here's an
extended explanation.

- Securing Unloaded Material: Unloaded materials, should be properly secured to prevent

movement or shifting during transport and storage. This involves using appropriate fasteners,
straps, or braces to secure the materials on transport vehicles or at the storage site. Any loose or
protruding parts should be adequately covered to prevent accidents during handling.

- Material Protection: Protecting unloaded materials from environmental factors is crucial to

prevent corrosion or damage. This may involve using weather-resistant covers, tarps, or coatings
to shield materials from rain, snow, or direct sunlight. For sensitive materials, anti-corrosion
agents or coatings can be applied to prevent rust.

- Ground Conditions: The ground where unloaded materials are placed or stored must be level,
stable, and capable of bearing the load. If the ground is not suitable, it can lead to accidents,
material damage, or delays. Ideally, materials should be stored on a firm, flat surface like a
concrete pad or stabilized soil. In cases where this isn't possible, proper ground preparation might
be necessary.

- Mitigation Actions for Poor Ground Conditions: In situations where the ground is not suitable for
material placement, mitigation actions can include

- Ground Reinforcement: Installing temporary foundations or stabilizing measures like gravel or

mats to distribute the load evenly and improve ground stability.

- -Material Reorientation: If possible, position the unloaded materials in a way that minimizes
stress on the ground. Distribute the weight evenly by spreading materials over a larger area.

- Regular Inspection: Frequent inspections of both the materials and the ground are essential to
identify any issues early. This can help in taking corrective actions promptly.

- Safety Measures: Safety is paramount during the assembly and erection of Gantry towers. Ensure
that all personnel involved are trained in safety protocols, including the use of personal protective
equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and safety harnesses. Adequate signage and barriers
should also be in place to keep unauthorized personnel away from the materials.

- Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of material handling procedures, including

securing methods, protection measures, and ground condition assessments.

6.3 MATERILAS HANDLING, STORAGE & PRESERVATION

1) All material shall be of new stock.

2) Due care shall be taken in the handling and transportation of structural steel and sub-assemblies to avoid
damage. Particular care shall be taken in the selection of slings and lifting arrangements, and to steel
which has been galvanized, painted, or otherwise coated.

3) Bolts, nuts and washers not used of erection shall be returned to storage area at the end of the work.

4) Bolts, nuts and washers shall be kept free of dirt, oil, grease, and other foreign materials.

5) Structural steel shall be provided protection wooden timbers, hard cartons and rubber straps to prevent
any damage caused by handling, storage or translate.

6) Small size steel and loose part items shall be stored securely packed in a wooden box.

6.4 TEMPORARY WORKS & TOOLS

1 We shall provide and maintain all temporary works and tools required for stub angle assemble works.

2 Temporary supports, such as temporary or other elements, shall be installed, as required, to properly
support and secure partially erected steel frames and assemblies, or parts thereof, during erection
operations and until floor slabs and other permanent bracing systems are effectively in place.

3 Temporary measure in gantry tower stub angle assembly and erection can provide a stable and safe
working platform for construction workers and equipment. Here are some key points regarding the basis
for using floor slabs as a temporary solution

4 Work Platform: Floor slabs create a flat and level work platform, making it easier for construction crews
to assemble and erect stub angle for gantry towers accurately. This is especially important for ensuring
the towers are plumb and level, which is crucial for safety and structural integrity.

5 Safety: A stable floor slab reduces the risk of accidents and provides a safe working surface for

construction workers. It minimizes the chances of tripping or slipping hazards commonly associated with
uneven or unstable surfaces.

6 Load Distribution: Floor slabs are engineered to distribute loads evenly. When used as a temporary
measure for gantry tower assembly, they can help distribute the weight of the tower components and any
equipment, reducing the risk of overloading or point loading.

7 Accessibility: Floor slabs often provide easy access for construction equipment and machinery, such as
cranes and forklifts, which may be necessary for the assembly and erection process.

8 Temporary Nature: It's important to remember that the use of floor slabs for gantry tower assembly is
temporary. Once the tower is fully assembled and secured, the floor slabs may be removed or repurposed
for other areas of the construction project.

9 Cranes shall not be travelled during lifting operations and shall not be used to lift any person without the
approval.

10 Heavy equipment, such as cranes, truck trailer, air compressor and folk-lift, etc shall be checked and
maintained in accordance with monthly maintenance plan of workshop. When out of order, the related
equipment shall be repaired and/or replaced, before operating at the site.

6.5 ASSEMBLY LIFT PLAN FOR INSTALLATION OF STUB ANGLE FOR IN GANTRY
TOWER FOUNDATION

1 The assembly lift plan for stub angle shall be installation of embedded base steel stub first on the Civil
foundation by temporary template firmly with hydraulic crane and individual lifting element (chain block
& tackle, sheave, etc.) for levelling as shown in the diagram.

2 When pre-assembled per above stub angle, template steel structures shall be put on the timber or wooden
plate and aligned in accordance with erection drawing and erection sequence shall proceed as shown in
the diagram.

3 The assembly lift plan of stub angle shall be arranged as based on the erection drawing, the template
design specification to assure that works meets all construction & work safety requirements.

4 The stub angle and template are assembled in a flat position on even ground at some distance from
gantry tower foundation. After the assembly is complete, the partial lift the template is picked-up from
the ground with the use of a crane and connection it with the base steel stub with the gantry foundation

5 The method for assembling and erecting a stub angle involves the utilization of timber or wooden plates
as the foundational base upon which TEMPLETE steel structures are positioned. This structural setup
