October 26, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers and Students,

There was an error in the previous letter. We have recently been made aware of student-led
walkouts scheduled to take place today on October 26, 2023 at a number of TDSB secondary
schools, including our school, Weston CI. It is our understanding that the walkouts are being
organized by students in support of Palestinians.

Please note that the TDSB is not involved in organizing these walkouts, nor are we in a position
to permit them or stop them from occurring. While we recognize that students want to
express themselves individually and collectively, it is critical that they do so in constructive,
respectful and responsible ways. We would also like to advise any participating students that
these walkouts should take place off school property.

As always, our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. During any walkouts,
school administration and staff will be outside to support the safety of all involved.
Toronto Police will also be on site to assist with managing traffic and ensuring community safety
where needed. Professional Support Services staff will be present at the school during the
walkout to support students as they need.

As a reminder, students under the age of 18 require parental permission to leave class. Any
students who are not in attendance will be marked absent.

Please know that at Weston CI, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and
supportive learning environment. This includes providing students with access to professional
support services and resources as needed. We recognize that students who are not participating in
the walkout may be impacted (such as Jewish students, Palestinian students, those who have
experienced war, and others). Please know that staff will be supporting and checking in with
these students and providing additional supports as needed.

If your child or family needs any support or has additional questions or concerns, we encourage
you to please reach out to the school office.

Sincerely,
Rosanna Deo
Principal
