Dear Year 1 Students,
INFORMATION FOR 2023 YEAR 1 STUDENTS
Welcome to the ACS (Independent) family!

1. Registration Matters:
Please refer to the following link for the required steps to complete after your posting results are out:

a) Registration details and the link for online registration
b) Link for Orientation Package, our 1-stop zip file containing vital information on school matters
c) Links for our book supplier and uniform vendors for the purchase of textbooks and school uniforms

2. Purchase of Books and School Items


a) Books: Please ensure that you have the correct booklist (Express or Integrated Programme) and
you purchase the right books and starter kit for school. The starter kit will include the school badge
together with the necessary stationery items.

b) School Items, including uniforms and starter kits:


The following is a list of compulsory and optional school items for purchase from uniform vendors –
Bibi and Baba and Finest Fashion. It is recommended that you buy enough for your daily wear based
on the daily school attire requirements below. Track/sports shoes are allowed and must be at least
70% white with white shoelaces only.

Corporate Tees will be sold by our uniform vendors till Jan 2023. Popular Bookstore will take over
the sale of corporate tees from Jan 2023 onwards.

1 no. of Year 1 2023 Orientation tee will be given to you during the 1st week of Discovery Camp; it is
not available for sale by the uniform vendors.

All students (including those from non-feeder schools) are allocated their House by the 1st week of
school. Feeder schools’ students will retain their own House. Non-feeder school students can buy
your House singlet after you know your House. House Tees are optional and will be available for sale
only next year.

School Attire for Students in 2023: As mask-wearing rules have eased and the wearing of
masks is optional, please note the school attire policy for all students as tabulated below.

3. Status of 3rd Language Application


Please note that MOE will no longer inform students of the outcome of their 3rd Language application via
hardcopy letter. For ACS (I), successful applicants will automatically be provided with the link on the
necessary 3rd Lang information in the online registration form when you register from 21 December 2022.
Unsuccessful applicants will not have the link in their online registration form.

4. Class Allocation
Your class allocation will be made known to you on the first day of school, Tuesday, 3 January 2023.
You can also check your class allocation via Parents Gateway from 31 Dec 2021.

5. First day of school


Reporting time is at 7.45am and dismissal for the 1st day of school will be at 2.40pm because of
Discovery Camp. No visitors/parents are allowed in school. As the traffic is heavy, you are encouraged to
arrive early and report at the open area (“Spaceframe”) in front of the clock tower. If your parents are
driving, they should drop you off outside the school. Please make your way up the ramp to the
Spaceframe. Our Year 1 teachers will be there to welcome you. Please refer to

You are to wear our proper ACS (Independent) school uniform (i.e. white shirt with tie and school berms
with white shoes and white socks).

You are to bring your thermometer to school at all times. You are NOT required to bring any textbooks
and workbooks; there will be no lessons on the first day. You should bring writing materials and some
cash for purchases at the Student Activity Centre (SAC – school canteen). For purchases at the SAC,
both cash and e-payment (using your EZlink card) can be made. There is no top-up facility in school and
you are to ensure there are sufficient funds in your EZlink card.

6. School Hours for Year 1 as of 3 January 2023


Please note that these times are not applicable during our Year 1 Discovery Camp (Tuesday, 3 Jan to
Tuesday, 10 Jan 2023). Do refer to our Discovery Camp programme in the Orientation Package for
details.

Day School Hours


Monday, Tuesday, Thursday* 7.45am – 2.40pm
Wednesday 8.45am – 3.00pm
Friday 7.45am – 1.00pm

* Year 1 – 4 students will be involved in Values in Action (VIA) programmes on selected Thursdays in
2023. In order to ensure a meaningful interaction and engagement with the community, VIA sessions are
likely to end after 2.40pm. The actual dismissal time and dates will be advised closer to the date(s).

7. Year 1 Orientation Programme


Our 6-day, non-residential Year 1 orientation programme, known as Discovery Camp, will run from 3 to 10
January 2023. This camp aims to help you understand and assimilate to our school better. A hard copy of
our Discovery Camp booklet, with all the necessary details, will be given to you on the first day of school.
The soft copy of the programme is found in the Orientation Package.

8. Compulsory Items Issued
The following items will be issued to you by January 2023. No payment is required at this point; the
payment for these items will be via Giro together with the school fees in March.

9. Special Programmes – RSP, MEP

a. Regional Studies Programme (RSP) – 4-year Scholarship


Students who are interested in applying for the Regional Studies Programme (RSP) must attend
our Zoom online briefing from 6.00pm to 6.45pm on 5 January 2023 (link below). More details of
the selection exercise will be shared during the briefing. For more information on RSP, please
visit the RSP page on the school website.

Interested applicants must:


• be Singapore citizens
• not have taken Malay as a Mother Tongue Language
• achieve excellent PSLE results
• offer Malay (Special Programme) as a third language when selected

b. Music Elective Programme (MEP) – 4-year Scholarship


Students who are interested in applying for the Music Elective Programme (MEP) must attend an
online briefing via ZOOM meeting (link below) from 7.00pm to 7.45pm on 9 January 2023. Year 1
students will be selected based on musical concepts and skills covered in the Primary Music
syllabus. They need to be competent in performance skills that can be developed through music
CCAs (for example, display basic fluency and sound fundamental techniques on their
instrument/s) or through other musical experiences.

All applicants must go through a selection exercise which consists of listening and aural tests, an
audition and an interview. More details of the selection exercise will be shared during the briefing.

10. Handphone Usage


The use of handphone is NOT ALLOWED and strictly prohibited during school hours unless it is
sanctioned by your teachers. Handphones should be kept, at the start of every school day, in the locker
allocated to you. More details will be given by your class teachers.

11. Personalised Digital Learning Programme (PDLP)


Details of the rollout for our school’s PDLP will be provided later in Term 1.

12. e-Student Handbook and e-Homework ACSignments


The link to our e-Student Handbook will be sent to your parents through Parents’ Gateway and to you via
Teams. Acknowledgement from parents upon receipt of our e-Student Handbook for 2023 will be
collected through Parents’ Gateway. Your teachers will provide more information on our ACSignments
Online Outlook calendar (which will document the daily homework and assignments for the class), and
other online matters in due time.

13. School Smart Card
You will be issued with a new Secondary level School Smart Card (SSC). Until then, you can continue to
use your Primary level SSCs for concessionary travel till end Apr 2023. You can still purchase the Bus
Concession Pass (BCP) using their Primary level SSCs but you will need to purchase the BCP for
Secondary School students.

14. Report Books


Our school will not be collecting students’ report books. When result slips are issued, we will notify your
parents via Parents Gateway and a softcopy can be downloaded from the school’s Parents Portal. The
school will also prepare a hardcopy of the result slips for you to bring them home for your parent’s
signature. Thereafter, please file them into your report book inserts accordingly.
