What is a manager
A manager is the one who leads within a
company a specific area or areas, directing a
certain group of people who are in charge. The
position of manager is normally a high-ranking
function within any company.

Characteristics of a manager
To be able to perform successfully in a position
of hierarchy such as a manager, you must have
certain skills and characteristics. Some of them
are:

Focus on results
A good manager will always focus on achieving
the best results for the company. If there is a
good orientation to achieve the objectives of the
company, there will be growth in it and positive
effects in the economic and human aspects.
Leadership
To be a successful manager, you must have great
mental strength and leadership, thus motivating your
subordinates to always improve and give their best for
the benefit of the company.

Know how to delegate


A key function in a good manager is knowing how to
delegate tasks and activities. This way you will be
giving confidence to your work teams and workloads
will be distributed. Moreover, you will be helping your
employees grow and learn.

Have communication skills


Communication is an indispensable element for a
manager. You must be able to convey to your
subordinates and colleagues clear ideas and messages
of what needs to be done and what are the objectives
to work.

Knowledge of the company


One of the most important characteristics that any
leader of a particular area should have is to know
what the company he works for does and to know
about its processes. Without this you will not be able
to properly guide your team to achieve results.

Have social and human skills


Another vital characteristic for any manager is to have
human and social skills. With this, the relationships
with their colleagues will be better and better and they
will be much more motivated to carry out their tasks.
Types of manager

Managers can be classified into different categories


Within the managerial positions there are two main
groups, from which several types of management
emerge. However, they must all comply with and
have the aforementioned characteristics.

Types of managers according to their function

Area or functional managers


This type of manager is the one in charge of a
particular area and directs only the people or
workers who are part of it. It must ensure that the
employees that make up this management achieve
the results exclusively for that area.

Production Management
Marketing Management
Sales Management
Human talent management
Financial Management

General-Managers

The general manager is the one in charge of leading


and articulating all the units of the company, that is,
he is responsible for the other areas or managements
that the company has.
An example of a general manager can be the owner of
a medium or small company, who is the head of it. In
multinational or larger companies, there may be
general managers in each country or city where you
have a presence.

Managers according to their hierarchy


First-line managers or supervisors
They are responsible for coordinating and
monitoring the work of low-ranking employees.
These are mainly attentive to the fact that the
most operational tasks are carried out correctly.
Middle Manager
These are responsible for supervising front-line
managers and in turn must report to higher-
ranking managers. That is, they are the link
between the lower levels of the company and the
higher levels.
Senior Management

It can be said that here are the


managers with the highest rank within
a company and are responsible for
setting the company's goals, making
decisions and directing middle and
first line management.
