Abstract of

QUENCHED AND TEMPERED STEEL MATERIALS

ASTMA449
2000 BOLTS AND STUDS

IFI NOTES:

1. ASTM A449 is a specification developed through the procedures of

ASTM. A449 is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F-16 on
Fasteners.

2. This abstract presents the chemical and mechanical requirements

for heat treated medium carbon steel bolts, screws and studs. It
omits those requirements dealing with quality assurance and in-
spection, a listing of applicable documents, PIN Code, and metric
(soft converted) equivalencies. For the omitted information, refer
to the complete A449.

The paragraph numbers throughout this abstract are those of the

complete A449·2000.

3. A449 has essentially the same mechanical properties as Grade 5 of

SAE J429, page 8-80.

4. ASTM A449-2000 is abstracted with permission from the Annual

Book of ASTM Standards, copyright American Society for Testing
and Materials, 100 Ba" Harbor Drive, West Conshohocken, PA
