Comedy HK Interview
Comedy HK Interview
The Singapore comedy scene has exploded with extreme prejudice, from not having any rooms 4
years ago to having TWO international comedy festivals in one year. The other comics are just as
amazing, from bombing on stages to doing 20 minute sets at the Esplanade (1,600 seater) in a
matter of just 4 years as well.
I’m on at least once a week in Singapore, we’ve got rooms for almost every day of the week and
they’re always nice enough to let me on. Normally it’s after everyone’s left and when they’ve kept
the mic, but that’s still counted as stage time, right?
Furious pacing, self-loathing and the occasional slow waltz to calm my nerves.
I think it’s less of ‘looking forward to’ and more of ‘dreading the funnier act that will eventually
knock me out’.
On my night (Thursday), the comic from Japan, Zenjiro, has no obvious ties to the stand-up scene
that I know of, so he’ll be an interesting one to watch.
Also, I’d hope my fellow SG comics, Kristel Zweers and Isaac Tay, will be able to rock it on their
respective nights.
3. What can the crowds expect from you in this years competition?
Younger perspective on things, a small look into Singapore life and dick jokes. Lots of dick jokes.
4. Who would you like to see in the 2014 competition who did not make the final lineup? Why would
you want to see them involved?
It’s year 9 of the completion, wouldn’t it be interesting if one of the prelim nights was just the
winners from all the previous years? It’ll be like some sort of All Star Battle Royale, but with less
Japanese school children and more drunk comedians.
5. Looking forward, what are some of your comedy goals for 2015?
Hopefully to perform in more countries, return back to The Crackhouse for a spot and not waste all
my money on bad Steam games and Bourbon.
Performance video you would like to share: Ummm, sorry M, but I’ll pass on this one =P
