NARRATIVE REPORT
TOPIC: STORY GRAMMAR & CLOZE PROCEDURE

Motivation:

 Begin by giving the students motivation of the topic to have an idea and familiarize
themselves with the topic ahead. Using bingo as a motivation adds an element of fun
and competition to the learning process which increase the engagement of the
students. The reporter also added number literacy skills to integrate a core subject
and adds up challenges.

Objectives:

 Students will be able to identify and describe the key components of a story,
including characters, setting, plot, and resolution.
 Students will practice filling in missing words in a passage using context clues,
enhancing their understanding of the text.
Discussion Proper: Story Grammar

 A story is a narrative that conveys a series of events or experiences, often involving


characters, a plot, and a setting.
 Grammar refers to the set of rules and conventions that govern the structure,
composition, and usage of a language.
 Story grammar in reading refers to the elements or parts of a story. Helpful in
literature analysis, language education, and understanding how stories are
constructed.
 Proficiency in story grammar contributes to improved reading comprehension.
Readers who can identify story elements and understand their interrelationships
are better equipped to extract meaning from texts, make predictions, and engage
with the material more deeply.
 Two types of Text Structure
1. Narrative Structure
2. Expository Structure
 5Ws and 1H for simpler comprehension of Story Grammar.
 Activity Time: Charades
- Chosen player will be the one who will demonstrate the picture that will be
shown by the presenter. Student who can guess the exact phrase will be
given +2 in the assessment. (Reward system)
- At the end of the charades, the class will answer the following questions:

Discussion Proper: Cloze Procedure

 Cloze procedure, or cloze reading, is a teaching strategy that uses passages of text
with missing words
 Certain words are removed, and the person taking the test has to fill in the missing
words.
 It helps measure reading comprehension and how well a person can use context to
figure out the right words.

Activity Time: Testing Reading Comprehension

- The purpose is to provide a sample exercise where participants need to fill in


the blanks with the appropriate words.
- In each case, the filled-in words complete the sentences, and the cloze
procedure assesses the reader's ability to understand and appropriately fill
in the blanks based on context.

1. Why is story grammar important in enhancing reading comprehension?


2. How confident do you feel about your understanding of the entire passage after
filling in the blanks?
