INTRO TO GOH

CARLOS EDUARDO ERMITA ALVAREZ III

At the outset, let me take this chance to introduce our Guest of Honor and
Speaker for this momentous event.

In one of his interviews On What Makes A True Servant-Leader with Father

Tito Caluag, he once said, and I quote,

“When you get into politics, don’t expect na may pera. You have to dedicate
yourself to the right reasons.”

On the same interview, he calls upon people especially the younger

generation—to become servant-leaders for the country. According to him, to make
this possible, it must start from us by always dedicating one’s life to improve the
lives of others.

A certified Lasalista who took a degree on Consular and Diplomatic Affairs

at De La Salle University. He served the public for 8 years following the footstep
of his grandfather, the former Executive Secretary during Arroyo Administration,
Eduardo R. Ermita.

He first entered the government service as Legislative Officer for the

Philippines Congress for five years.

Continuing his wondrous service to the Filipino People, he was elected as

Municipal Councilor of Balayan, Batangas from 2019 until 2022. As Sangguniang
Bayan member, he chaired two committees; environment and economic enterprise,
where he pushed for laws and ordinances that will help the community and give
projects to the people to help them improve their lives. He established parentships
with NGO’s and brought CRRM projects down to the Barangay Level.
Through his unceasing love and integrity to the public trust, he was
appointed as the Regional Director of the Office of Civil Defense CALABARZON
last September 2023.

Furthermore, he led various programs, activities and projects that promote

disaster risk reduction and management and disaster resiliency making sure that the
DRRM best practices were felt down to the grassroots, the Barangay Level.

As the chairperson of Regional DRRM Council, he is instrumental in

mitigating the effects of natural and human-induced hazards, preparedness and
response action, and building back better through the robust-coordination with
National and Regional-line Agencies, Local Government Units, and other partners-
the stakeholders.

A young politician yet was deeply governed by the age-old values of helping
others, especially those who can barely help themselves. May these inspiring
words from our very own public servant resonate to all of us here, “Being able to
help others is a way of helping our country” When we help, whether big or small,
it gives us a most satisfying feeling.

We now stand with awe as we gladly welcome in our midst, our Guest of Honor
and Speaker,

CARLOS EDUARDO ERMITA ALVAREZ III

Regional Director, Office of Civil Defense and Chairperson, Regional
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council CALABARZON.
