TEACHING ENGLISH IN THE ELEMENTARY (LANGUAGE ARTS)

NAME: JUNALYN G. ALIGWAY

Answer the questions briefly.

1. As a future teacher and with the mandate of DepEd that no one is left
behind, how are you going to make sure that pupils can catch with
language lesson while language delay is inevitable?

As a future teacher, I will emphasize the word I want the child to learn and
repeat the concept in a variety of situations or settings so that the child
understands the various ways a concept can be applied (e.g., "Lights on" vs.
"The book is on the table"). Describe: Describe to the child what they are doing in
everyday activities (e.g., when the child is packing up their toys, I might say, "Put
the toys in the box," or when dressing or undressing, I might say, "Take your
shoes off or put your shoes on."). Books: Show the child books that pique his or
her interest and talk about the pictures and the story. Request that the child
predict what will happen next or explain why something occurred in the story.

2. Pick any 3 of the methods in teaching language and try to relate them in
your experiences in your earlier years as a learner?

Audio lingual
When I was in fourth grade, the teacher asked each of us students in turn, "What did you
eat for breakfast?" And we answered truthfully: "I ate rice and hotdog" or "I ate two eggs
and bread." Students may also prepare and present their own dialogues based on the
original lesson.

Total Physical Response (TPR)

My experience of these was when we had a physical activity, which is dancing, which
requires gestures, body language, and physical expressions.

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)

When I was in high school, my teachers assigned us to watch a video online
(listen), comment on it (write), and describe others' opinions in the comment
section (read).
3. What does CALL stand for? How is it done?

Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) is a method of teaching and

learning in which computers and computer-based resources such as the Internet
are used to present, reinforce, and assess material to be learned. It usually
includes a significant interactive component.

4. Which method of teaching you like best? Why? How would you apply it in a
classroom setting?

Experiential learning is an excellent teaching method because it fosters creativity,

helps students learn from mistakes, promotes reflective thinking, and prepares
students for future experiences. It can be useful for a variety of subjects,
particularly during science experiments, sports coaching, and group projects.

5. Under the new normal due to the recent pandemic distant learning is the
practice, what do you think are the class activities applicable in our area,
and how would you assess them?
Accept technology.
Technology should assist rather than hinder the teaching and learning process.
Many teachers wonder how to improve student success in the online classroom and
express concerns about the impact of technology, particularly cell phones, on the
learning environment. If the battle over cell phones is difficult in the classroom,
you're not going to fare much better at home—but use this to your advantage.
Distance learning allows for the adoption and implementation of a broader range of
technological tools.
