Increased population density, fast urbanisation, and the globalisation of unhealthy lifestyles that

may lead to hypertension are all observed in the developing world. As a result, hypertension is

one of the non-communicable diseases that is a burden on people's health since it may cause

death and morbidity. It has quickly become a global issue, particularly in developing nations.

A rise in population, a fast urbanisation, and the globalisation of unhealthy lifestyles characterise

the sudden change that the developing world is going through. The prevalence of hypertension, a

non-communicable disease that has the potential to significantly impact both mortality and

morbidity, is on the rise, which is cause for concerns. This might be attributed to a combination

of causes. Due to this change, hypertension is now well recognised as a problem that affects the

world, especially emerging countries.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is when the blood pressure that is higher than normal and the

reading of the blood pressure become 130/80 mmHg or higher. It was first discovered by

Frederick Mahomed in early 1870’s it was only spring-device to measure the radial pulse until

the device become fully developed by Nicolai Korotkoff in 1905 invented sphygmomanometer

to determine the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and sphygmomanometer device is used

until these present days (Johnson et al., 2015). Since having an elevated heart rate increases the

risk of developing cardiovascular disease, it is crucial to keep an eye on the blood pressure of

hypertensive individuals and ensure that they take their medications as prescribed.
Understanding the development of blood pressure measurement technologies, the origins of

hypertension, and the necessity of medication adherence are essential for managing this common

medical condition.

The medication for hypertensive people needs a prescription given by a doctor that requires

maintenance treatment and needs medication compliance. According to Cramer et al. (2008),

Medication is a drug that is intended to help individuals manage and relieve the symptoms of an

illness or medical condition that affects humans and medication compliance refers to the

obediently following the schedule of the prescribed medicine with respect to its timing, dosage

and its frequency. There are factors or types of non-adherence first is primary non adherence,

second is non-persistence, third is the non-conforming and upon health monitoring behavior

people that is hypertensive and fail to adhere to their medication will be a serious problem and

could worsen their disease (Jimmy & Jose, 2020).
