Glimpses of the UAE Resources
Emirate of Sharjah Walking/Cycling
Tours and Itineraries

This handy booklet includes suggestions for walking/cycling tours

and itineraries across the emirate but you can always mix them up
and add or skip something. They are intended as flexible frameworks
to plan your day rather than rigid programmes. All tours can be done
on foot, by bike, or by scooter.
You can use it by itself or to get even more out of your trip, use it
together with The Ultimate Guide to the Emirate of Sharjah. If you
don’t have the book already, you can see links to buy it here. Check
the Glimpses of UAE website for updates on new places to visit,
closures, working days and hours, etc, so you’re not disappointed. I
do my best to keep the information current on my website but it’s
always advisable to check with centres and so on if there is
somewhere you particularly want to go. Having a plan B is always a
helpful idea too.
Each tour has a map showing locations numbered according to the
steps given. The pins on the maps may not always be in the exact
spot but are more of a guide.
Relevant links to posts on the website or social media are included
at the end of each tour/itinerary. IG is for a link to an Instagram
post, FB for a Facebook post, and if there is no abbreviation, it’s a
link to a post on the website.
The second link, ‘Map,’ takes you to the locations on the Glimpses of
the UAE Map. My map is a helpful tool for planning your itinerary in
a particular area. Most map links also have photos of the location
and a link to either a web post or a social media post.
So now, let’s get started with the tours!
Walking Tour 1 - Sharjah Art Area

This tour is only about 1km. If you include The Rain Room, it’s
about 2km.

Optional extra - stop off at Art for All and have a look at exhibited
works.
3) Head to Souq Al Shanasiya and continue through to Souq

the park, go past the green area behind them and then turn right
up into an alley. Keep going straight. Stop by the Urban Garden

Arabic Architecture in Sharjah
Itinerary 1 - Arabic Architecture Tour

I have listed this in a logical order for a driving route. The first point
starts near the Dubai border near the sea and the E11. The last two
are near both the E311 and E611. The ideal architecture tour will
include Sharjah Mosque, which is at the junction of E611 and
S116/E104.
This is not a complete list. You will see more examples of Arabic
architecture as you drive around. I recommend you look through the
post on Arabic Architecture in Sharjah to see more of individual
buildings.

Dibba Al Hisn Walking/Cycling Tour

There are only two main roads in Dibba Al Hisn, plus the newer road
around the island.
You can do the entire route or park near the mosque and start there.
The full loop is around 9km and the loop from the mosque is about
6km. It’s also ideal to use as an itinerary as it’s a small town.
1) Optional - Start at the roundabout at the entrance to Dibba Al
Hisn. Go down the main street to the big roundabout and pass the
government buildings, which go all the way down the left-hand
side.
2) Go to/start at the big mosque.
3) Walk down to the harbour. If it’s morning, you might like to
visit the fish market.
4) Walk along the canal path. There are a couple of cafes where
you can sit outside (or inside) and enjoy the view. There is also a
small public gym.
5) Go back to Corniche Rd after the cafe near the end of the walking
track and continue to the beach park on the right (the second
part of the beach.) Keep in mind that this is a more conservative
area. Walk along the beach and then back to the road through the
park area.
6) Optional - continue along to the border where there is a small
heritage area (currently closed.)
7) Head back along the corniche and see Dibba Al Hisn Fort on
your way. It’s closed off as it’s undergoing restoration but you can
still see it.
8) At the big roundabout, turn left onto the road to Al Hisn
Island, go straight and follow the road around the island. Stop
and sit on a bench, admire the view, or have something to eat or
drink at Wave cafe.
9) When you get to the third roundabout with the pictures on it,
turn right to the canal. There is a shaded play area and benches
to sit and enjoy the view of the mountains, canal and Dibba Al
Hisn.
