Objective: The objective of this method statement is to outline the procedures and safety measures to be
followed during the installation of a water and foam pipeline at the wharf area at LBT, Westport.

Scope: This method statement covers the installation of a approximately 1000m of foam and water
pipeline at the wharf area in LBT, Westport including dismantling existing piping, new pipe laying,
jointing, and testing and commissioning.

Responsibilities:

1. Project Manager: Responsible for overall project coordination and supervision.

2. Site Engineer: Responsible for overseeing on-site activities and ensuring compliance with the
method statement.
3. Safety Officer: Responsible for ensuring safety measures are implemented.
4. Construction Crew: Responsible for executing the installation work.

Materials and Equipment:

1. Water pipes and fittings

2. Trench boxes
3. Excavators
4. Pipe cutting and welding equipment
5. Backfill material (if necessary)
6. Compaction equipment (if necessary)
7. Safety gear (hard hats, gloves, high-visibility vests, etc.)
8. Barricades and warning signs
9. Booms or barriers to protect against marine traffic during installation
10. Equipment for marine excavation (if underwater installation is required)

Methodology:

Site Preparation:

1. Set up safety barriers and warning signs to restrict access to the work area.
2. Ensure all personnel involved are equipped with appropriate safety gear.
3. If underwater installation is required, coordinate with marine authorities for safety measures.
4. Excavation:
5. Excavate the trench according to the approved drawings and pipe specifications.
6. Ensure proper shoring and trench box installation to prevent cave-ins.
7. Regularly check the trench for water accumulation and ensure proper dewatering measures if
needed.

Isolation and Depressurization:

1. If the pipe carries any fluid or gas, isolate and depressurize the pipe as per industry standards.
2. Ensure that all relevant valves are closed and that any residual pressure is safely released.
Pipe Dismantling:

1. Use suitable tools to cut or disconnect the pipe at predetermined sections.

2. Remove any fittings, flanges, or connectors.
3. Ensure proper support for any sections of pipe that may fall during the dismantling process.
4. Lower or guide sections of the pipe to the ground safely.

Disposal:

1. Properly dispose of dismantled pipe sections and any associated materials as per local waste
disposal regulations.

Pipe Installation:

1. Lay the water pipes according to the approved alignment and grade.
2. Ensure proper jointing methods, including welding or using suitable fittings, as per manufacturer
guidelines.
3. For underwater installation, use appropriate equipment and methods, such as divers or
specialized machinery.

Backfilling if Necessary:

1. Backfill the trench with approved materials in layers, compacting each layer to the specified
density.
2. Ensure that backfilling is done evenly on both sides of the pipe to prevent stress on the pipeline.
3. Restore the surface to its original condition, including any marine protection measures if
necessary.

Safety Measures:

1. All personnel should adhere to safety regulations and wear the required personal protective
equipment (PPE).
2. Regular safety meetings and toolbox talks should be conducted.
3. For work near or on the water, ensure personnel are trained in water safety and rescue
procedures.
4. Properly secure marine traffic areas during installation, if applicable.

Emergency Procedures:

1. Establish an emergency response plan and provide personnel with information on how to
respond to incidents such as leaks, accidents, or water-related emergencies.

Quality Control:

1. Regularly inspect and test the pipeline for quality and integrity throughout the installation
process.

Approval and Sign-Off:

1. The Project Manager or Site Engineer should review and approve this method statement.
2. Personnel involved in the installation process should sign off on the document as
acknowledgment of understanding and adherence.
Testing and Commissioning:

1. Conduct a final inspection to ensure the pipeline's integrity and alignment.

2. Perform pressure tests and any other required tests to ensure the pipeline's functionality.
3. Maintain accurate records of all installation activities, inspections, and tests conducted.
4. Submit a final report documenting the installation process.
