Mathematics

Unit Introduction e.g. This gives an introduction to the unit

Area is an important and fundamental part of Mathematics. The topic of Area is important to
mathematics because it is the physical aspects of Mathematics. Learning about Area will give the
students have a chance to use math that people need and use outside of school. Many careers like
architecture, graphics design, engineering, the coast guard, and many others include the use of
area on a regular basis. With some of these careers, it is crucial to know and understand the
importance of this topic.

This topic will also be important for them to understand one day when they need to remodel,
buy, or build a new home because they will want to get the maximum use of their house. Once
students understand the importance of area and perimeter and that it is useful outside of the
classroom in so many places, they will be more willing to learn about them.

centimeters
● Find out how we can use the square
centimeter as the standard unit for
measuring area.
● Compute area of regular and irregular
shapes by counting squares.

Student Prerequisite Skills Students must be able to: add and count .
E.g. What the student must be able
to do.

Students Prior Knowledge Students are familiar with the area as the total surface
covered. Students know how to identify the most

E.g. What students must know prior appropriate shape for measuring area. They can also
to this unit estimate and verify area of shapes
using the most appropriate unit.

● Important definitions of Area. As a result,
