Reflection on Mentorship

I have always enjoyed teaching and learning new things, so when I had the opportunity to
mentor my brother, I was very excited. Throughout the mentorship, I focused on teaching him two
essential skills: which is to appreciate mathematics and cooking simple recipes which is the
scrambled eggs. One of the things that I taught them was how to cook an egg, which is a simple
but useful way to introduce my brother to the art of cooking. Starting with a simple recipe, like
scrambled eggs, was a truly valuable experience. Cooking is not just about preparing food; it is a
life skill that promotes independence and self-sufficiency. As we navigated the kitchen together, I
observed his eagerness to learn and his growing confidence in handling kitchen tools. I showed
them how to crack the egg, whisk it, add salt and any other condiments, and fry it in a pan. I also
taught them how to flip the egg without breaking it, which was a bit tricky but fun. Teaching him
how to cook an egg was just the beginning; it opened doors to a world of possibilities and
encouraged him to explore his skills.
Another thing that I taught them was how to solve math, especially how to multiply, add,
and subtract, since he loved math so much, particularly multiplication, and I taught him how to
learn hand-point multiplication tricks, which are methods of multiplying numbers using his
fingers. I explained to them the basic concepts of multiplication. I also showed them how to add
and subtract numbers with and without regrouping. I gave them some worksheets, and we used
tablets where their answers were flashed on them to present in this video to practice and test their
skills. I was happy to see them improve their math abilities and confidence. By guiding him
through various math solving. I aimed to improve his analytical thinking and decision-making
abilities, which are essential in daily life. Secondly, math proficiency is highly valued in academic
and professional settings. By equipping my brother with these skills at an early age, I hope to
enhance his future career opportunities.
The mentorship program was a rewarding experience for me, and my one and only brother
provided an opportunity for me to play a positive role in my brother’s life. By sharing some of my
skills, I aimed to empower him and contribute to his personal growth. I learned how to be a patient
and effective teacher, and how to adapt to different learning styles and needs. I also learned more
about my siblings' interests and personalities and how to communicate and bond with them better.
My siblings learned some valuable skills and knowledge that they could use in their daily lives
and school. They also learned how to be curious and eager learners and how to appreciate and
respect their mentor. We had a lot of fun and laughter along the way, and we became closer.
Mentorship programs foster a supportive and nurturing environment, allowing mentees to learn
from experienced individuals and gain valuable insights. Through this experience, I not only
enhanced my brother’s skills but also strengthened our bond as siblings. So, as a mentor, I am very
grateful for the opportunity to guide and support my brother, and I am excited to continue this
journey of learning and growth together.
