Manifestations of the Spirit.

1 Cor 12:1-7 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye
know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth
Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of
administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the
same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every
man to profit withal.
Christianity is not empty. It is the ministry of the Spirit _ and this ministry separates it in
operation from all religions. Many times, there is so much absence of the manifestation of
the Spirit in many Christian circles so that people don’t even know when there is one or
when it is the human senses on rampage. It is important to know when someone is giving a
word of the Spirit that is based on the unction of the Spirit. And there are different
manifestations of the Spirit and if God’s people do not know, it may be just lost to the
church. For example, there are many things that are lost as different generations move on.
When there is a generation gap, some things are lost to the incoming generation except if
they are well informed and if they have been a part of it. It is the same spiritually-except
these things are taught or demonstrated, they could be lost to the church to the point that
they become strange when they happen.
So, in verse one Paul says, Now concerning spiritual gifts, or the manifestations of the Spirit
or the spiritual I would not have you ignorant- which means it is possible you could be
ignorant of these. Then, in verse 4 he says, there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities
of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. Then, in verse7 which is very
striking he says, But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man (in the church) to
profit withal (or for the common good). Every child of God ought to have a spiritual gift in
manifestation if you have the Holy Ghost living in you. If you have the Spirit of God in you,
there must be something supernatural about your life. There seems to be a replacement of
what we call a manifestation of the Spirit with a new term which is not you- but I don’t want
you to get confused-which is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. A lot of times people talk about
the anointing of the spirit of God but seems to be totally unaware of the manifestation of
the Spirit. But there are manifestations of the Spirit that stay in a life-they become part of
your life and they become better in such operations as you continue to apply yourself to that
gift or that manifestation in your life. You train yourself in the manifestation of the Spirit
when a particular gift of the Spirit is evident in your life. If you cease to operate in it or do
not operate in it often enough before long, you won’t experience it anymore. But you can
get better in it. These gifts do not come by us tuning into something or getting ourselves to
do something- but it is by the unction of that Spirit – but the important part is we get
ourselves attuned to the Spirit. Let me put it this way; I believe most of you speak in other
tongues if you have received the Holy Spirit- but you know that the words do not come from
your understanding, or from your mind-you do not reason them out-but you decide to speak
to them out. Who gives the utterance? The Holy Spirit- but because we have come to
understand it, accept that truth easily, we are no longer conscious of the faith work or the
unction of the Holy Spirit when we decide to speak in other tongues- yet it is as supernatural
as any other supernatural thing that the Bible talks about. The bible tells us that when we
speak in other tongues it comes from our spirits, not from our mind. 1 Cor 14. The gifts of
the Spirit are contagious. 1 Samuel 10&19. That’s why it is important where you go to church
because the spirit on that church will rub off on you.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge
by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by
the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of
tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man
severally as he will.

Can be categorised into 3 parts. Revelational gifts, power gifts, and utterance gifts. Desire
spiritual gifts- 1 Corinthians 14:1. Verse 5 says you can ask which gift you want. You have a
choice. Verse 13 says that you can pray for interpretation of tongues.
