The Ordinary Verb "To Have" to express

Possession

A- INTRODUCTION
The verb "have" is one of the most versatile
verbs in the English language. It can be used as
an auxiliary verb to form perfect tenses and
negative sentences.
It can also be used as an ordinary verb to
express possession, experiences, and emotions.
In this presentation, we will focus on the use of
"have" as an ordinary verb to express possession.

B- WHAT IS POSSESSION?
Possession refers to the ownership or control of
something. When we say that someone "has"
something, we mean that they own it or
control it.
Example: I have a car
(I mean that I own a car.)

C- FORMING SENTENCES WITH "HAVE"


1- Affirmative Sentence
To form an affirmative sentence with "have,"
we use :
Subject + have / has + direct object
Example : - I have a car
- They have a house.
NB : has is applied for the 3rd person singular
Ex : She has a dog,
2- Negative Sentence
To form a negative sentence with "have" we
use :
Subject + do / does + not + have + Direct
Object
Example : - I don't have a car
- She does not have a dog
- They don't have a house
NB : " does" is used for subject in 3rd person
singular
Ex : Alicia does not have a phone
Do not = Don't
Does not = Doesn't
3- Interrogative Questions
Do / Does + Subject + have + Object
+ …… ?
Example : - Do you have a car ?
- Does she have a dog?
- Do they have a house?
