Welcome Pack – suggested content

1. Welcome note: include note to the age of the cottage, that there is a step
to the front door and to take care and that the handrail is provided for
safe access via the stairs.
2. Wi-Fi details and password
3. Parking and nearest electric car charging details
4. Emergency contacts information: fire, police, A&E and nearest chemist
with details of the property address, postcode, you contact number and a What
Three Words or O.S grid reference.
5. Guest rules: ‘dos and don’ts’ - no smoking/vaping indoors, no use of portable
appliances – including heaters – unless provided by yourself. Checking their chargers
for damage before use and avoiding recharging overnight.
6. Property information and facilities : Think about what someone who has never
visited before and what they might need to know to avoid having to call you. Things
like locking doors by pushing handles up first, where to find the outside light, what to
do in case of an emergency – location of stop cocks, fuse boxes, how to adjust the
heating and water controls.
7. Appliance instructions: Operating instruction leaflets for basic instructions for
the cooker, microwave, TV and dishwasher and any troubleshooting guides.
8. Heating instructions: how to change the temperature, switch the system on and
off and instructions not to set the timer. Include tips on saving energy like turning off
the heating while out and making sure doors and windows remain shut to keep the
heat in. Clear instructions on no use of the log burner unless they contact you to
supply fuel and set it up for you (or you could just put a sign up that says ‘not in use
– for decoration only’)
9. Fire and Electrical Safety: details of where smoke and carbon monoxide
detectors are fitted, use of the emergency lights and torches, and what to do in case
of a fire including escape routes and where they lead to (so how to get from the back
of the house out onto the main road area. Also, where to find a first aid kit.
10. Recycling information and bin collection days : different areas have different
rules, so clear instructions on what goes where, the days when its collected and
which bins to put out.
11. Local amenities: nearest post office, cash machines, local shops and
supermarkets, takeaways and home deliveries.
12. Places to go and things to do: you had a great selection in the other house.
13. Local food and drinks: again, you had a great selection of information.
14. Local transport information: including numbers for taxi companies.
