LESSON 1
Questions:
1. Did anyone among the blind men give correct answer? Why or why not?
No, no one in the six blind men give the correct answer about the physical appearance of the
elephant considering that they all are blind and they cannot see. And even if we say that in spite
of their difficulties at least they give their own ideas but the point here is about the question
asking if anyone among blind men give the correct answer and sadly no one got it right. Also in
the story it was stated that though each was partly right, and all were in the wrong.

2. In the context of the elephant story, what do you think is a holistic perspective and
what is a partial point of view?
In the context of the elephant story, the holistic perspective is the elephant itself for a reason that
the problem requires an individual to have an open mindset and an ability to get the general
sense or impression regarding a topic while the partial point of view is the opinion of the six
blind men opinion due to it Focuses on specific aspects of a situation

3. What is the importance of a holistic perspective as pointed out by the poet John
Godfrey Saxe?
Holistic perspective is important for as reason that it describe the different kinds of interactions,
and the important aspect of how we self-aware about the perceive reality.

the world and the continuity of actions from being to being. That in every action that man do
there will always be an appropriate reaction in response to it. It also help us by giving us
knowledge of the world around us and change it into something better. And help us to develop
our perspectives in life.
5. Differentiate human acts and acts of man?
Human Acts are actions of men/women that is freely done. This means that the action are
voluntary and are under direct control of the will. While Acts of Man are actions that are
instinctive, such as physiological in nature. These actions is done under the circumstances of
ignorance, passion, fear, violence, and habits.
Reflection 1. Explain and expound the following quote: “the players do not know what the
onlookers are seeing.”

“The players do not know what the onlookers are seeing” in this quote it make us realize that
players is tend to forget everything surrounds them when they are too focus, they are not aware
that maybe they already hurt someone or they already look at their selves high. Like what
Pythagoras observe there are when he was watching the Olympic Games, he observed that there
are three classes of people. First was the one he called lovers of gain, these are the people whose
main objective is to gain material possessions. The second class he coined lovers of honor, these
are the kind of people whose goal in life is to achieve fame and honor by distinguishing
themselves from others in different pursuits of life. The third class he observed were those who
does not care much for fame and wealth but whose main hope is to gain understanding of the
spectacle, these he called lovers of wisdom

Reflection 2. Explain and expound the line from the poem INVICTUS by William Emest
Henley: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” This quote means the journey that we
will choose to walk. Choosing our own path means consciously deciding what is right for us.
Life is like a journey that has different paths, but any path we choose is our destiny. Considering
that we are the one who is full control of our choices and actions.

LESSON 2
Activity 1. What can you say about the quote? “Broadening your perspective can be life-
enhancing.”

According to my research, broadening means to expand encompass more people, ideas, or


things. While perspective means is the way we see something. Broadening your perspective can
be life-enhancing for a reason that if we have big knowledge, it can help us to have more about
the world and change it into something better.

To know the truth of things not to impose our truth on things.

Reflection 1: How valuable is doing philosophy in obtaining a broad perspective in life? Why is
having a holistic perspective important?

In lesson one, it says that philosophy formally understood as the science or study of all things in
their ultimate causes, reasons and principles by using human reason. Philosophy being the
science that studies all things (reality) means that it leads us to gain a deeper understanding of
our world by seeking out the most profound reason for all things, answering not only the “what”
and “when” of reality but the “why”, “how” and “for what purpose”. Philosophy is valuable in
obtaining a broad perspective in life for a reason that it has big contribution to us. It helps us to
expand our knowledge about everything surrounds us that is why it valuable in our life. Also
philosophy helps us to know the truth of things,” not to impose our truth on things. This aim
leads us to arrive the “certainty of truth.” It also concerns us how man sees the reality. And
having holistic perspective is important for a reason that it describe the different kinds of
interactions. Also it helps us to see the world in a broad perspective

Reflection 2: When and how can you apply the principles of doing philosophy in your day to
day life or activities? Concrete experiences. Instances or examples.

In lesson 2, it says that doing philosophy can be applied to day-to-day activities and life
perspectives. Because it involves an evaluative process, doing philosophy allows a person to
make better decisions and act accordingly to situations with the help of various philosophical
skills. Doing philosophy directs how a person will perceive these factors in life and how they
will be faced. We can apply the principles of doing philosophy in your day to day life or
activities when it comes to thinking. Philosophy help us not just to see the reality but also help to
improve our thinking by improving our ability to be reasonable. For example we have recitation
in class, of course you need an ability to be reasonable to defend your answer.

LESSON 3
Activity. Explain the statement: “Philosophy is like a midwife during labor”

Philosophy enables reflective thinking which greatly influences a person’s view of life,
challenges and relationships. While midwife is a trained health professional who helps healthy
women during labor, delivery, and after the birth of their babies. Just like philosophy, philosophy
is like a midwife during labor for a reason that philosophy help us to born, to have, or to expand
more knowledge. It help us to have broad perspective in life.

Logic is an art and science of correct thinking because logic consists of a systematized
knowledge of the principles that govern correct thinking. In this vein, logic is not based on mere
opinion or hypothesis, but on certain and demonstrated knowledge.

Reflection. What is the difference of truth and opinion? Give concrete examples. Situation or
experience.

Truth can be defined as a fact that has been verified. Something is true, it can be justified or
proven through the use of one’s sense, it is based on facts, it is a product of an agreement or
consensus, and lastly it can be applied in real life (tested and proven). While Opinions are
comprised of statements which not only give facts but also provide conclusions or perspectives
regarding certain situations. They may advance a belief about certain things or provide
explanations. Opinions are also the bases for making arguments and convincing people that a
certain claim is a fact. They are often influenced by bias. For example, first day of school and I
have to introduce myself, of course I am going to give some facts about me and that is true.
While opinion is when the teacher had a discussion and she told me to give an idea about the
lesson that is opinion. For a reason that it is my own view of judgment not based on facts.
