The love myth of Orpheus and
Eurydice in comparison with Jack
and Rose from Titanic

Orpheus and Eurydice


Orpheus and Eurydice’s love story follows
an unfortunate early death of Eurydice
before they even got married. Through
Orpheus’s gift of music passed down to her
by her mother, he went to the underworld
and persuaded Hades to try and bring
Eurydice back but with a condition Orpheus
failed to fulfill which sent Eurydice back to
the underworld

Jack and Rose


Coming from two different social status,
they met when Jack saw Rose trying to
kill herself by climbing to the railing of the
ship. Jack then convinced Rose that her
life was worth living and eventually fell
for each other until the incident of which
the ship hit an iceberg in the middle of
the frigid ocean Jack then died saving
Rose from the sinking ship.

The theme of Orpheus and Eurydice’s love
myth transcends impossible things making
it seem possible. Overcoming death and
separation with the power of love, Through
the power of music Orpheus convinced and
persuaded god in the underworld to be
able to accomplish and save Eurydice from
death.

The theme of Jack and


Rose’s love story in
“Titanic”
The theme of Jack and Rose’s love story from the
movie “Titanic” tells us that no matter the social
status or economic divisions that separates them
is that love knows no boundaries. It also
encompasses the timeless love in which the Older
Rose who survived the incident still relives their
story even if they had just met from that trip.

Both love stories presents overcoming tragedies of


different cultural origins yet possesses symbolic
ideals about the nature of love and its power that
provides the characters enduring capabilities
