Univariate and

Multivariate Analysis
Univariate Analysis

● Univariate analysis explores each variable in a data set, separately

● It looks at the range of values, as well as the central tendency of the values
● It describes the pattern of response to the variable, describing each variable on its own
● Techniques which are useful for univariate analysis:
○ Frequency Distribution Tables
○ Bar Charts
○ Histograms
○ Pie Charts
○ Box Plots
Bivariate Analysis

● Bivariate analysis involves the analysis of two variables (often denoted as X, Y), for the
purpose of determining the empirical relationship between them
● It is the analysis of the relationship between the two variables
● Techniques which are useful for bivariate analysis:
○ Scatter Plots
○ Correlation Coefficients
○ Chi Square Test
Multivariate Analysis

● Multivariate means involving multiple dependent variables resulting in one outcome

● Multivariate analysis (MVA) is a Statistical procedure for analysis of data involving more
than one type of measurement or observation
● Techniques which are useful for bivariate analysis:
○ Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
○ Cluster analysis
○ Multiple Regression Analysis
